Cakes & Sweet Treats — Restaurant in Katy

I placed and order with Angela a week prior to my event and she gave me a quote and I notified her when I would like to pick it up. She gave me a time and I said okay. Day of the event I messaged her I would be picking it up later than intended and she stated that she did not make it because I did not confirm. First I have been using her for years before she was even in her shop and never knew I needed to confirm when as a business owner it is her job to check with her client to ask if this is a confirmation. Secondly the cake was way overpriced and would be the first cake I ever bought from her that was so expensive. Even when she quoted me the price I thought so but I wanted to be loyal to her and understand she has a business now. And thirdly the last cake I purchased from her the quality was not like it use to be and yet I still wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt and place and additional order. I will say her attitude is horrific. No empathy or no fault was taken in the matter. And I will never go back to her again. Be aware and make sure to read all the reviews. We have now tried their food twice. I hesitated to leave a mediocre review after the first time because I thought it might have been a fluke and this is a small business. The first time I bought two layered pastries with I think dulce de leche between the layers I expected the layers of pastry to be crisp and delicate, but I could barely bite through them. It was like leather. I assumed they were stale and old, which is not acceptable for the prices they charge, but let it slide.

Today I tried again and bought macaroons for my wife. She said they were okay, but HEB macaroons have more flavor. If your pastries are below the grocery store bakery level, it is time to make a change. You usually only get one chance to gain a repeat customer. I have given them two chances. I hope the best for them, but I will not be back. Giving 4 stars instead of the deserved 1 or 2 because I feel bad. I am a jalapeno, sausage, and cheese kolache connoisseur. A true expert!! I believe that like a glazed donut, this simple breakfast treat is the baseline of any donut, coffee, breakfast shop so when I try a new place, if they make a jalapeno kolache, I'm going with it. Let me tell you... love at first bite. Angela and her family have this down to a sweet science. It is clear that they care about the details with a delicious smoked sausage, cheesy goodness, and loaded with plenty of jalapenos with bread so soft and sweet... it is literally one of the best kolaches you'll ever find! This paired with the legit coffee options and of course the other delectables on offer, owned and operated by a loving family... you really can't...
