Dear owner
First of all, congratulations on starting your new restaurant in the neighborhood! It’s always exciting to see fresh culinary ventures, and your cuisine (Tamilnadu style) has been highly anticipated by many in the community. Wishing you great success in this new journey.
While I truly appreciate your effort in bringing a new dining experience to the area, I wanted to share some constructive feedback that might help in improving the overall experience.
Areas for Improvement: Service Efficiency – The order-taking and serving process needs significant improvement. The wait time was longer than expected, which can be frustrating for customers. Tableware Quality – The water tumblers, plates, and cutlery could be of better quality and size to enhance the dining experience. Food Taste & Presentation – While the concept of a live paratha counter is interesting, the taste and quality did not meet expectations. Similarly, the biryani was quite ordinary, and serving it in a small steel plate felt below standard. Mutton Sukka Masala – The masala in this dish was not properly ground, affecting the texture and taste. Chicken Dish with Paratha – The chicken dish served alongside the paratha was quite disappointing in both taste and quality.
Recommendations for Enhancement: Highlight House Specials – A display board near the entrance featuring house specials would help customers make better choices and allow you to focus on a refined menu. Hygiene Standards – None of the kitchen staff were wearing head caps, which is essential for maintaining hygiene. Please ensure this is followed. Table Setup & Service – Consider placing paper towels and cutlery on the table and serving water in bottles instead of tumblers for a more convenient dining experience. Pricing Strategy – The pricing felt a bit high for the quality of food served. Slightly adjusting it could attract more customers. Order Management – Waiters were not writing down orders, which can lead to errors and delays. Encouraging them to note down orders will improve efficiency. Food Quality & Presentation – Enhancing food quality and improving the way dishes are presented will create a better impression and attract repeat customers. Special Gesture for Opening Day – A welcome drink or a complimentary dessert on the opening day would have been a thoughtful touch to make customers feel valued.
I hope this feedback helps in refining the restaurant’s operations and customer experience. Wishing you all the best, and I look forward to visiting again soon to see the...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Jallikattu Restaurant in Katy for lunch buffet on two occasions. Once with friends (Panthi Virunthu) and another time with family on 9th Feb. I couldn't resist sharing a detailed review because this place truly brings the authentic flavors of South India to Katy. If you are craving a traditional and flavorful South Indian meal, this is undoubtedly a spot to visit.
Ambiance & Menu Variety
From the moment you step in, the restaurant offers a welcoming atmosphere. The items are extensive, featuring a diverse selection of salads, vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, fish fry, live dosa (with multiple varieties), and traditional Indian sweets. The sheer variety ensures there is something for everyone, whether you are a spice lover or prefer milder flavors.
Food Highlights
Seafood Delights: The crab thokku was outstanding, it immediately transported me back to Madurai with its rich, well-balanced flavors. The spice level for Americans may be little high, but reducing it will kill the taste. The prawns were equally delicious, fresh, and perfectly cooked.
Chicken 65: A must-try! It was crispy, flavorful, and irresistibly tasty. I enjoyed it so much that I filled it again. While the spice level was perfect for adults, a slight reduction could make it even more kid-friendly. That said, my son still loved it!
Biryani Heaven: The restaurant served three different types of biryani, and I was pleasantly surprised that each had its own unique taste and stood out on its own. Instead of one overshadowing the others, they all competed for the top spot!
Indian Breads: The naan was incredibly soft and buttery, making it a perfect complement to the gravies. However I missed the paratta and hope to see it soon.
Sweets & Drinks:
Carrot Halwa: A perfect blend of sweetness, texture, and richness, absolutely delightful!
Tirunelveli Halwa: While it was flavorful, I found it a bit oily. Using more ghee instead of oil would elevate it to an even more heavenly level.
Nannari Sarbath: This traditional drink was a nostalgic treat, refreshing and authentic.
Final Thoughts
Jallikattu Restaurant is more than just a meal; it's a feast that you need to experience. Whether you are looking for a place to enjoy authentic South Indian food with friends or family, this restaurant offers a true culinary delight. The variety, taste, and authenticity make it one of the best South Indian restaurants in Katy. Looking forward to...
Read moreThis place was recommended by a friend, so we decided to give it a try.
Location (★☆☆☆☆): Very odd—tucked away in the middle of nowhere.
Atmosphere: Extremely dark inside with an unpleasant lingering smell, almost like old food odors that had built up over time. Seating was uncomfortable, and the décor felt mismatched—part Indian, part Texan, part American—with no clear theme. To make it worse, three completely different types of music were playing at the same time: Punjabi in the kitchen, instrumental at the counter, and South Indian songs with videos in the main dining area.
Service: The lady who took our order was polite, but it seemed like she didn’t fully understand what we were asking. Unfortunately, the dishes she recommended turned out to be disappointing.
Food: • Appetizers: The chicken quality was very poor. • Fried Fish: The kingfish filet was just okay, but lacked any seasoning or salt. • Chintamani Chicken Curry: This was the most disappointing dish—we couldn’t even finish it. The chicken didn’t taste right, and the parts used were unpleasant.
When it came time for the check, the server insisted on giving us to-go boxes. Even though we politely said no multiple times, she kept pushing, which made the situation uncomfortable.
Overall, this was a very poor experience, and we will definitely not be returning.
P.S. I’m writing this review while finishing my laundry because the smell of curries and old food clung so heavily...
