EXPERIENCE AT JAFFREY LOCATION:
I am a graduate of Franklin Pierce University and frequently return to the Monadnock area to visit friends who remain there. Since the Lab N' Lager opened in 2013, I have made a special point to stop in every time I visit. The food is decent and the beer selection is very good. As such, I have spent hundreds of dollars at this bar since it opened in 2013.
I visited this past weekend. I arrived around midnight with one friend. We sat at the bar chatting over beers. We had one and ordered a second round. During the middle of my second round, I got up and went to the bathroom. Having not been in some time, I forgot that the men's room is located between the two rooms in the front. I walked over to where the girl's room is and was confused that the men's room was not immediately nearby. Looking for the men's room, I opened a closet door and then looked around, found the men's room and went inside.
While inside, the bartender approached my friend, dramatically threw out my half-full SECOND beer - which I had paid for - and announced I was being thrown out because I was "showing signs of intoxication" and "walked into a wall." I, of course, never walked into a wall, and the claim that I was intoxicated was dubious at best. When I exited the bathroom, the door man was dramatically blocking the entrance to the bar area as if I am some sort of thug who was going tot ry and storm back in and make a scene. I was then told that I was being ejected from the premises. How embarrassing. My friend ushered me out. Naturally, I was confused and aggravated. I told the door man that he sucked - a contention which I stand by - and left.
Let us play devil's advocate and look at this from the bar's standpoint; the fact that it is a BAR that serves products which make people intoxicated not withstanding, an appropriate response would have been to politely inform me that I was not going to be served anymore drinks, offer me a glass of water, and allow me to sit for a moment rather than throwing me out onto the street. I had been sitting quietly, chatting with a friend. If I had been rowdy or rude, that would have been grounds for dismissal, but because I was confused as to the location of the bathroom? Get a grip, guys. It wasn't 5PM on a Wednesday. It was midnight on a Saturday. Of course anyone in a bar at that time is going to possibly seem a little buzzed or drunk! Luckily, my friend was driving, but what if I had been? If so, the bar would have put me in a bad position. The way I was treated and the way the situation was handled is absolutely no way to treat a paying, repeat customer.
I called the next day and spoke to the manager, Jamie. He attempted to console me by saying that I need not feel bad because I was "certainly not the only one who got kicked out last night." I am consoled only by the fact that with this horrible business approach of throwing anyone whom they suspect might even be slightly buzzed at, again, A BAR, will continue to alienate customers.
Congrats, guys. Hope you're happy. I'm never...
Read moreThis is my drinking spot, which means I might be a bit biased. However, it's for a good reason! Affordable and tasty drinks, friendly staff, yummy food, and some comfy seats. It's obvious to me why it's always so busy! I try to come here when it's a bit quieter in order to chat with friends, but I can see the appeal of the party aspect. Either way it can be pretty loud... so be prepared for that. My suggestion is to try as many of their food items as possible. I haven't found any that I don't like as of yet. My favorite is their maple bacon wings... oh so yummy! Though their totchos are a close second. As for the drink, they make the sweetest Grateful Dead I've ever tasted. You can barely taste the alcohol and I thoroughly enjoy it. Can't wait to raise a...
