I'm going to be odd man out here. My experience was just OK, I ordered the large Ox Tail plate, , the large Jerk Chicken plate and a Jerk Chicken Patty.
The Ox tail was delicious but there were only seven pieces for a large which cost about $13. If you know Ox Tail then you know that there is not a lot of meat so seven pieces for a large is pretty stingy.
Like so many Caribbean restaurants Yasho's gave me about three cups of rice with the plate, way more rice than anyone could or would want to eat. As far as I can tell the rice was just just black beans in juice and rice cooked together so nothing really appetizing there.
The rice was improved by mixing it with the gravy from the Ox Tail but again there was very little gravy so I ended up just throwing about 3/4 of the rice out.
The plate comes with some type of slaw, again, perhaps it is traditional but not particularly appetizing. Again, I threw most of it out.
The Jerk chicken Patty was flavorful but Yasho's is trying to cheap out again. Very little filling and lots of dough. Fill those patties with meat, that is what people are paying for.
The Jerk Chicken plate followed the same format, the chicken was very good but not plentiful for the cost, three cups of rice and slaw. I at the chicken and threw the rest out.
My assessment is this, Keene is not Jamaica so this little bit of meat and three cups of rice as a filler is not going to fly for long, especially not at $13. Yasho's needs to be more generous with the meat portion, absolutely increase the gravy, it is the only thing that made the rice palatable, cut the rice portion at least in half, no one want to eat that much rice.....and maybe put a fried plantain or two in the plates as a little treat for the customer.
I think Yasho's could be very good but it is...
Read moreI was excited to try this spot as I’m a huge foodie and have been to to many other Jamaican restaurants. I’m visiting from another state and was surprised to see one of my favorite foods in town here. If you’re looking for an authentic Jamaican food experience, this is not it. Though it has some Jamaican flavors it fails to hit the mark of a TRUE authentic experience. I ordered Jerk chicken, the most BASIC thing you can order for Jamaican food. Instead of receiving an assortment of chopped moist dark and light meat I received an over cooked chicken breast with a spicy dried out rub on the outside. The plate came with white rice (which I’ve never seen before in my experiences). Rice and peas was brought out to try. It lacked tons of flavor which is completely unusual. And the other side I received was coleslaw. (Which I have also NEVER seen in my experience) Usually the side of vegetables is a cooked cabbage with veg NOT coleslaw… They sell empanadas NOT Jamaican Pattie’s which are what they are supposed to be called… I didn’t try them. I say all this to say NOT to base your opinions of Jamaican food on this particular restaurant. If people don’t know how Jamaican food should taste, they might get a very different view of the cuisine and it doesn’t accurately represent the amazing food that it...
Read moreNever in my life have I witnessed such disrespect during a holiday. I watched the owner of yahso tell people to continue to blow their air horns into people apartment windows just because they were " celebrating" despite several attempts to get them to stop. The restaurant location is located downtown below over 100 peoples apartment/home and they were "celebrating" at 7:30 in the morning. When they were asked nicely to stop by multiple people they did not stop and went even louder honking their car horn. They screamed profanity and made fun of the people who were upset with the noises. There are disabled children who live in the building. They're are babies, toddlers kids and elderly. There are hard working people who work 3rd shift, who were coming to bed at that time. They're are multiple dogs that they riled up and got anxious. They hurt children's eardrums in their own home with how loud Yahso was this morning at 7:30 AM and I'm, along with many others are utterly disappointed and disturbed...
