Monkey Bar — Restaurant in Kemah

We always loved the service Drew gave us at our local Chili's and when he told us that he started working part-time at The Monkey Bar we thought that we would give it a try. We really didn't know what kind of place it was, Monkey Bar says Bar, but we wanted to try something different. We were actually surprised when we walked into this quaint little hangout with lots of friendly locals who were more than happy to welcome us. The staff, even the owner, were attentive to every customers needs. At first we were concerned about the cigarette smoke, but it didn't take long to notice that they have an excellent circulation system that keeps the air clean so I didn't even notice! You can order a variety of appetizers and other dishes for lunch and dinner but decided on some pretty good boudin egg rolls and some cold beers while we shot a few games of pool. We enjoyed our first visit and plan on going back to try something from the lunch or dinner...

Good little bar to chill at. However, after my wife and I had some drinks and mingled, not to mention buying some shots/drinks for a few other patrons we met, we get back to our hotel room and found out that on top of the cash tips we put in the jar, they decided to add an 18% gratuity to our bill, which in and of itself was around $48 dollars. SHADY to say the least, we might have bought drinks for some other patrons. but keep in mind my wife and I were the only 2 in our party. EPIC FAIL....and not appreciated by this Army veteran!!! DO NOT START A TAB HERE!!! Pay as you go if you visit here. And I thought the bartenders in Dongducheon Korea were...

Came here Saturday night for a couple drinks and had the misfortune of Shelby being the bartender. She was clearly selective about who she ID’d. she didn’t ID two younger white guys that came in to order shots that looked younger than were.

She also seemed to hate her job. A group came in and ordered shots and she rolled her eyes. Sorry, but isn’t this your job? Left no tip and dipped out after 1 drink. Would highly recommend not going here if you’re looking for friendly or fast service. Note to Monkey Bar — hire bar staff that will actually keep people at the bar. Note to Shelby — find another job if you don’t...
