Been coming to Bangkok Bangkok for years and have seen it undergo different management, even as they've reduced the size of the place too.
We came in on a Sunday night just before 7pm and the place seemed empty so we were immediately taken to our table. The waitress who served us was great. She was attentive to us even as the place started filling up. We ended up ordering the Pad Thai, Pad See-Ew, and the Roasted Duck Darling. For the duck, our waitress asked if we wanted the sauce on the side. I was surprised that it was even an option! I chose to have the sauce on the side because since they get the duck to a crispy perfection you can maintain that crispness for leftovers and add as much or as little sauce as needed. When the Pad Thai came out, all the veggies were set to the side which I thought was great for picky eaters.
Of all the food we've ordered, I would highly recommend the Roasted Duck Darling and getting the sauce on the side. The sauce had more sweetness to it, although on the menu it says something like "sweet and sour"...I don't taste anything sour, in my opinion.
For the price, I feel like it's overpriced. For a dinner-sized Pad Thai, I don't believe it should be worth over $13. I've had portions of similar size for cheaper at other Thai places.
I miss the days when the servers wore the traditional garb and when the space was bigger, they had an elevated platform where you could remove your shoes and sit on cushions. However, food and service have been consistently good. I'd say definitely check out Bangkok Bangkok when you're in the...
Read moreTo be fair, this trip was more for the nostalgia meal. Bangkok Bangkok was our favorite date-place in the mid 80s, and I think the last time we ate there was around late 87.
It was disappointing to find the restaurant was half the size and no longer had the seating pit tables.
We ordered the chicken satay appetizer. A plate with a cast iron hibachi, Seared chicken skewers with sides of Cucumber sauce & peanut sauce arrived. I plucked off one of the two chicken skewers that were placed on the fire, taking the first bite. It felt spongy so I pulled the chicken of the stick, cut it lengthwise and realized I'd just eaten raw poultry. I chose a 2nd skewer, which was fully cooked, but I'd lost my appetite for satay.
Hubs had ordered the Earth Wind & Fire II. He had to wait a few minutes for our server to bring out rice. His dish was very good, just as remembered.
I'd ordered the Pad Preo Warn with chicken. My dish arrived with shrimp & had to be returned. It was delivered just a few minutes later. It was just a tad spicier than ordered, but still very delicious and just as I remembered.
We had to have separate checks for business purposes, and I noticed there was already an 18% surcharge added.
Overall the food was good, the service was good. The location has ample parking & easy access. But I'll no longer crave a meal there, which is good since we live...
Read moreI had one of the worst experiences during a recent visit, not only was the service poor but the food was dreadful. I ordered two different dishes, which I am very familiar with. The Yellow Chicken Curry and the Pad Thai, the chicken and the sauce were bland. The Pad Thai dish had chicken and shrimp in it; therefore, I explained to the waitress that I do not consume shellfish. She rudely questioned me as to why I do not consume shrimp, and reluctantly took it back to the kitchen where the cooks began complaining-their tone was loud/aggressive. The Waitress returned shortly afterwards with a "new" Pad Thai, it tasted of shrimp; they simply plucked out the shrimp from it and sent it back to the table. Upon discovering this, I requested the check. Although, the Waiter saw that I had not consumed any of the food, he did even care to ask if everything was okay; he simply handed me the check. This lack of respect for customers and lack of appreciation for our business is why restaurants shut down. I would not suggest that anyone spend their hard earned money at...
