Not a great place to eat in- it's clean but not really welcoming or fun.
The food is absolutely out of this world.
However service is lacking. We showed up at 7:30 on a Saturday, 30 minutes before closing. Place was locked, some folks still eating inside, while staff were cleaning up.
I'm suggesting that publicly posted hours be adjusted to be 7:15 (my guess), not 8pm (which seems to be the time employees go home). Any business has to have an overlap, so "closing" at 7 usually means cleaned up and done by 8. *EDIT: Seems like they have now updated the hours to reflect a 7pm closure. Perhaps I had a good guess after all.
Last time we were here a couple months ago, they ran out of chili, during dinner time, right after we received a fresh cup of hot chili which was delicious and definitely not "bottom off the barrel". I'm thinking they just put it away but said they ran out because it wasn't on heat.
Original End of Review.... "We love this place, just want it to be clearer about hours. While sitting here writing this review, 2 other confused customers tried to enter the locked restaurant.
So it's not just me." ... but since they updated the hours now this part is no longer relevant. Keeping it here...
Read moreA huge disappointment. I grew up less than two miles from the Irvington outlet and for years had been a regular customer back in the day. Passing through the area a week ago, I stopped by for Old Time's Sake with certain positive expectations. 3pm on a Saturday afternoon while the place had perhaps 10 customers waiting on their orders.
I tried a double hot sausage. The meat on the sandwich was decidedly second rate and grossly overcooked. The bread was somewhat stale and the potatoes were mushy. The onions and peppers obviously had been sitting around for awhile. The entire effect was something dry, flavorless, poorly prepared and way overpriced. Even the store itself wasn't especially clean and smelled funky. Service was prompt and professional but this did not make up for food that was so dreadful that I ate less than half of it.
Perhaps I came along at a bad time. Yet, fooderies like this should have uniform, good quality of product at any time.
I should have driven down the Boulevard to Five Points and eaten at what is variously called Galloping Hill or Peterson's,...

I went to the location in Kenilworth and you couldn't really smell the food that was cooking. I ordered anyway because I was meeting some friends there. Trust me never again. The food was greasy, looked and taste like it was sitting all day and had an look of old left overs greasy potatoes & onions as well as the hot dog that appeared to be refried several times which made it tuff. The other thing was the man preparing the food touched his cap he had on his head a few times, not sure if he had on gloves, because the window where the food was being prepared was very small, so you couldn't very well see the food being prepared like the other locations I've been to in the past.
Nothing about all of this makes me want to revisit this location period. My stomach didn't set to well after that. So thank & no thanks to that...
