I was looking for a bakery to pick up some cupcakes or slices of cake for a Saturday treat. Google Maps tempted me to try Creme Fraiche with photos that looked to be straight out of a magazine and a handful of glowing reviews. I wondered how I hadn't already been to a place that had pastries that look like the photos in the reviews, especially since it's in the same shopping plaza as Kenner Pizza, which has the most fantastic tandoori chicken pizza.
I arrive, walk in, and am immediately confused because all that's in the case is a chocolate coconut cake with a slice missing, a whole cake with that appears to be caramel icing and walnuts, some french macarons hidden under plastic, one doughy pastry that I thought was maybe a hand pie, and a plate of 4 or so burnt looking circles that looked upside down and like large cornbreads.
A lady comes out, and I ask her about the cake with walnuts, because obviously pickings are slim, and I figured I'd try a piece of cake, at least, to support this local business, because times are tough. She said it's almond cake with caramel icing, so I asked for a slice to go. I also asked her about the burnt circular goodies, and all I could get from her is they were corn. She told me the reason the cases were empty is because they are closed on Sunday and Monday (and I was there on Saturday afternoonish).
I got the cake home, grabbed a fork, sliced into the cake, noting the texture was weird, took a bite, and this cake was absolutely disgusting. It was wet. Like a sponge that had been wrung out. I pushed on the cake with my finger, and the cake was absolutely spongy. Additionally, the only thing I could taste was walnuts. I love walnuts, but what about the almond flavor? What about the caramel frosting? I pinched off a piece of the cake without any frosting or walnuts to try to at least find something redeeming about this cake. No flavor. I used my fork to scrape frosting off to try to get the flavor of it, which is when I realized the frosting was hardened and difficult to scrape off the cake. Again, no flavor.
This place is an absolute disappointment. I am confused by the photos that have been posted, and I can't help but wonder if they are stock photos found on the internet, because there was absolutely nothing like those photos in this shop. There is zero chance I'd come back to this place, which is a bummer, as I really love baked goods and supporting local folks.
It's quite interesting that almost all of the 5-star reviews are from people whom have only ever posted a review for this bakery and for nowhere else. 3 of those reviews showed up on the same day, after I posted my honest review...
Read moreIf this place was open then my responce would probably be different, they post both on thier door and web site that they on Friday they open a 7AM, well I got there to find out they are closed, wiated til 7:58 and nothing.
I was literally surprised and blown away, ordered a birthday cake over the phone, not only was the cake ready when I went to pick it up, to my surprise when I finally opened it they had done more than what I had expected. Blown Away because the cake was delicious, not too sweet, light. Just the way a it should be. Not mention the viriaty of pastries, one more delicious than the other.
The detail and work they put into their pastries, is so good that almost feel bad to bite into one of them, on the other hand the tast is out of this world.
I would highly recommend either visiting or ordering any of their cakes or pastries. You will NOT be...
Read moreI was looking for a custom birthday cake for my wife from somewhere local. I cam across Creme Fraiche Cafe in Kenner on Facebook. It did not disappoint! The pastry chef and owner was very helpful. I asked him to design a naked icing cake and left the rest up to his artistic ideas; including the type of cake. What he came up with was a white cake with wild blueberry Chantilly creme. The cake looked beautiful and tasted even better! I would highly recommend Creme Fraiche Cafe to anyone looking for something special. I want to go back and try his gelato, which also looked amazing. Thank you again for your great service and...
