I was getting some work done on my car in the gentleman that recommended this place to me was Spanish said very good food so I left the shop and I walked to this place from where I was. I entered the building was not greeted. I thought it was a sit down place first of all so I sat down. I was handed a Spanish menu and then I guess she noticed that I wasn't Spanish. She went and got me another menu I said. Thank you very much. I sat there at least 10 minutes. Nobody never approached me said may I help you or anything so I got up and left. So the next day it was on my mind because I would never do anyone how I was treated in that environment. They saw me sitting there and nobody told me anything rather it was a sit down. Rather I was supposed to come in order or anything so going back too. I will went to the restaurant the next day and it's talked to a young lady that spoke English. She informed me that most of them in there speak Spanish. That's okay, but it still doesn't mean that you can't greet a customer that's coming in your establishment. You should get somebody to speak or that speaks English to deal with your English speaking customers but evidently they don't care. I was very hurt and if I on the restaurant rather Spanish African American Chinese Caucasian came into my store. I was still greet them as I am in a customer service environment so I do not recommend them. If they do not want anybody but they're Spanish people to come in there, they should put it on the door because I'm sure we as Americans do not treat...
Read moreIf I could give it a Zero that would be my rating. Went with a friend who is Latin and advised against going to any of the Latin spots near airport but to satisfy my craving she took me to La Cocinita. Asked if they had pupusas for breakfast and cook replied yes. Decided to try them out. I have eaten pupusas before and did not think there was much that could go wrong. I was wrong. I got the worst pupusas I have ever had. Not cooked completely so the batter was what you tasted; the inside was red mixed with what was supposed to be chicharon. I immediately complained to waitress and I believe this is where this place got the Zero rating. Waitress went to Owner/Manager and he told her to take them back but rather than asking if I wanted something else; waitress began to make faces and ignore our table. We literally stood up and went to Qwner/Manager to pay. Apologetic he was only going to charge the drinks; but at that moment waitress rushed over to have him charge entire order. The money was not the issue. Paid what we consumed. It was the nasty and unprofessional service we received. I rarely write reviews but want to save someone from having such an unpleasant experience when they are...
Read moreSo my friends and I have been trying out all the breakfast/brunch places in Kenner and beyond. In our non-scientific experiment, we can officially say that La Cocinita gives you the most bang for your buck if you're in search of delicious Honduran food.
Portions are huge and easy to share. The pupusas were made fresh and stuffed with queso and chichurrons. Their fried chicken was made to order, flavorful and moist and tasted wonderful with their slaw. Their Honduran breakfast was also delicious and a big portion. Plantains were sweet and cooked perfectly. I don't like it when places don't double-fry them. Corn tortillas are also homemade and big enough to carb cravings. Strong fresh coffee.
Also loved hearing all the different Spanish dialects around us. Despite not speaking Spanish ourselves, we didn't feel unwelcome nor out of place. Really enjoyed being surrounded with all the families and couples inhaling their huge dishes. Gave us tons of ideas of what to eat next.
