Me and my fiancé are not from the area and came to Kennett Square PA to watch my mother play with her band at Kenneth Brewing company, which was a lovely place and atmosphere by the way, but by the time we got there the kitchen was no longer open. We then got recommend this little place up the street called Letty’s Tavern so we thought we would grab something quick from them to go so we could come back to enjoy my mothers band. As soon as we got there the hostess was just not friendly right from the start. I asked if we could order takeout to which she replied okay what do you want. I asked for a menu since like I said we are not from the area. She handed it over without a word or recommendation and was staring us down impatiently as we were deciding what we wanted. We finally decided on some wings to which she replied that’s it just wings? like we were supposed to get more and that wasn’t worth her time. She told us it would be about 15 minutes and we handed over the card. When she brought the receipt back to sign my fiancé signed his name and handed it back to which she then said no tip? thanks guys and of course she said this as we were already walking back outside to wait for our order. I didn’t say anything to her at the time i just shrugged it off. She brought the blue cheese out to us immediately which was odd then literally no more then 4 minutes later she brought the wings out. At this time we didn’t say anything we just wanted to get our food and head back to watch my mom play. As soon as we got back to the brewing company and opened the box i knew right then and there something was not right. The wings were cold with no sauce and were not even on the bones. it looked like someone’s scraps or like someone had taken bites of the chicken off the bone and spit the chewed up bits back into the box. the meat was slimy and cold and like i said looked to be regurgitated. We even asked people around us if this is what wings we’re supposed to look like from there and they said no. We didn’t even eat any of the wings because at that point i knew they were either someone’s trash or this was done intentionally. I went back and showed the same hostess the wings and said are these supposed to look like this to which she replied she would ask the chef. She came back out 30 seconds later and told me the chef said that they were quote “fall off the bone wings” and that’s why they looked like that. I told her that they were cold and had no sauce and that we didn’t want them. She asked if we wanted them remade and I said no we just want our money back to which she snidely replied oh you want your 19 bucks back. I was just absolutely appalled by this establishment and how they treat customers. All because we didn’t tip on a 19$ takeout order? She even had the nerve to ask me why I had an attitude with her when i said we wanted a refund. Unbelievable. I’ve worked in the service industry before as a server and I know how it is to be stiffed but thats after actually serving a table not putting in a takeout order and bringing it to someone. maybe we would have went back to Letty’s another time to sit down and actually spend some time and money there but after this horrible experience I would never even step foot in this establishment. I hope no one has had the same experience and just wanted to share this because of how upset it made us and ruined our night out to see my mom play. Definitely would rate negative stars if I could. We have to do...
Read moreTo be fair, I’ve only been there three times and ate there only once. Staff were always friendly, particularly one younger guy that worked in the wine bar and clearly knew his stuff. They’ve also done a great job of freshening up the place.
Honestly, I think they’ve tried too hard to be super upscale in an area that does have plenty of well off people, but also has normal lower, and middle income folks. Food wise, I tried the Ricotta Gnocci with Lobster - The portion was VERY small for $28, and I’ve heard the same thing from other reviews. Probably no more than maybe 16 gnocci, that were a bit heavy for ricotta gnocci, and them and the sauce was definitely a bit bland. There was also VERY little lobster. I’ve seen other plates there and it also seems like very little food for the price. With all the great food around here, I’d be reluctant to spend that much to be disappointed again.
My other issue is the drinks. They do not have many wines at all by the glass, last I was there, a Chardonnay, a sweet wine, a rose, and a sparkling white, and only about 4 reds. Pours are fairly small it seems (probably around 4-5 ounces) at $14+ a pop. Almost every place - even the fancier ones around here - at least has slightly more affordable house wines and a dry and a sweet at around $7-10 per glass. There’s more of a selection by the bottle, but the prices start at around $55 a bottle, and most are higher.
I was also excited to see they kept the wine take-away bar, until I saw the prices. Almost no bottles below $50 - most are higher than that and they have little - if any - cold white wine for purchase. It’s a cute spot, and you can get expensive wines by the glass, or buy a pricey bottle, and get some apps. On the other hand, it’s poorly air conditioned, so just be aware that when it’s hot, it will be almost just as hot down there but without the breeze.
If you like cocktails, I’ve heard they are great, but again, very small pours for not a small price. Their martini’s for example are good, but are served in what looks more like a cordial glass and it definitely less than most places for the same price.
I do sincerely wish them luck. I’ve lived in this town for quite awhile and I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t. My advice, if they want to survive, would be to truly listen to the more negative reviews and take them seriously. I know some are just off nights, or people being extra cranky, but from the other reviews and what I’ve heard around town from the people that live here, work here, and eat/drink out frequently, are much more of what I’ve said...
Read moreI couldn’t wait to try the new restaurant Letty's Tavern, and it did not disappoint. I had never visited when it was Kennett Inn and I know there’s been some renovations since but it’s absolutely beautiful. The atmosphere is cozy yet elegant but also casual. It’s like feeling comfort but also feeling like you’re really treating yourself to a nice evening...and you are!
The service was impeccable. It’s really hard to believe that they’ve only been operating for two nights. Water was refilled often and all of the team members there were spot on. One of the owners was constantly on the floor helping to seat people, serve, pickup dishes. I admire that immensely. Our waiter was so friendly and made us feel very welcome
The beer menu is very nice! As a beer lover I appreciated that they had both the classics and some great craft options. The wine list was solid and I’m told by my boyfriend that the cocktails were potent and some of the best he’s ever had. They also look pretty, which makes it even better!
We started with some fresh cut fries and onion rings. The house made ranch is everything. Just trust me! This isn’t your standard Hidden Valley. This is hidden heaven! Both small plates, as they are called, are good sized portions and REALLY good. Talk about the perfect fry. Believe me on this, I love every form of potatoes and these are the best.
The two adults ordered the Korean Chicken Sandwich. The flavor was out of this world. My kids each got a burger. Everyone must go there and try one! Holy moly...best burger ever. True perfection. They nailed it out of the park.
We will 100% be returning. I wanted to try the honey soy chicken but the waiter told us it takes a bit longer and can feed two people. I really want to give it a go when we don’t have the kids with us (they are impatient). I also can’t wait to try the steak.
I was able to make reservations on Open Table and I recommend doing the same because they are going to continue to be busy with service and...
