Authentic Mexican Flavors and Generous Portions – A Local Favorite in Kennewick
Taqueria El Sabor was a pleasant surprise and one of the most authentic Mexican dining experiences I’ve had in a while. This small, mom-and-pop-style restaurant was packed with customers even at 2 PM on a Friday, which says a lot. A local friend told us it’s always busy, no matter the time of day, and it’s open until midnight, making it a reliable late-night food spot as well.
🌮 What We Ordered: • Beef Soup: This was my personal highlight. The beef was exceptionally tender, reminiscent of Korean galbitang (beef soup), though the ingredients and broth had a distinctly different, Mexican flair. The broth leaned oily, but the flavor was rich and comforting. Next time, I’d like to try it with regular beef instead of tendon. • Beef & Cheese Quesadilla: Massive in size and definitely enough to share. Yes, it was oily—but that added to the indulgent, local flavor. • Chili Verde Pork: Flavorful and juicy with just the right amount of kick. • Nachos with Cheese & Beef: Not bad, but a bit dry compared to the other dishes. Might benefit from extra sauce or salsa.
🥒 Pickle & Sauce Bar: A huge bonus! There were four house-made salsas, pickled red onions with a spicy kick, radishes, and cucumber slices—all perfect accompaniments to balance out the heavier dishes.
👨👩👧👦 Ambience & Service: The atmosphere was family-friendly with a classic, cozy Mexican restaurant vibe. The staff were friendly and efficient, even though the place was packed. Seating is limited, so be prepared to wait during peak hours—but it’s worth it.
💵 Pricing: While prices have increased a bit (dishes ranging from $15–19), the portion sizes are generous—many plates could easily be split between two people. Considering the quality and authenticity, it still feels like a great value.
🇲🇽 Final Thoughts: Most of the patrons appeared to be from Central or South American backgrounds, which added even more credibility to the authenticity of the food. I would absolutely return next time I’m in Kennewick. If you’re craving hearty, flavorful, and truly authentic Mexican cuisine, this is...
Read moreI've been coming here on and off since like 2015. It's great. The food is delicious and they give good portions (about 95% of the time, no restaurant is perfect). Sometimes they've messed up an order, forgot something, or didn't have the best attitude but the food is worth it imo. This is one of the best Mexican places I've found in tri cities and I say that as someone who lived in the 805 area code of so-cal most of my life. Even when the food is "bad" it's still better than most other options available. I also really appreciate that they don't seem to cater to sensitive palates much which makes it feel more authentic. The salsas are spicy and the flavors are rich. It's even better than most taco trucks in tri that I've tried and while other restaurants also have delicious food, the portions and quality of the food set this place apart.
This is also my Go To delivery spot on Uber and I've found the delivery food is just as good & portioned as it is dining in. And to that point, I've never found a hair, cartilage, bone, or bugs in my delivery box here either which shouldn't have to be mentioned, but it's so common in tri cities that I feel the need to add it here.
That said, for the delivery menu there should be options to add salsa and which salsas you want. My only really gripe is that unless I go in myself I never get enough and I usually only get a couple of the ones I wanted even when I do get a lot. I do leave notes, but it seems either the store or the driver is ignoring them, either way it'd make my customer experience better if that...
Read moreI hate to leave a bad review here because I’ve been coming to this place of business for a long time, but because it is so inconsistent, and also because of our service last night, I felt the need to let someone know.
Last night at around 9:30 myself and three other family members went through the drive thru and made an order. The woman taking our order was obviously overwhelmed by the fact that there were four of us and seemed very irritated and cut us off before we were ready. When we got to the service window we paid and waited in a designated parking space for our order.
Twenty mins later the woman (I’m assuming the same woman who took our order based on her attitude), informed us that we would not be getting our order because they were out of fish (three of us ordered fish tacos) They did have shrimp so we asked if we could just add shrimp instead of fish and she told us “no”. She then informed us that we needed to decide what we wanted but she was not going to wait for us and we would have to go back in through the drive thru. To make matters worse when we decided to get our money back and go somewhere else she tried to short change us by about 30 dollars.
Mostly I think our feelings were hurt? We felt like we were not wanted there, that we were a burden, that our business was not appreciated. Ive never felt like that before at any business. I’m not going back there again, but I will continue going to the Pasco location. Something needs to be done in Kennewick judging by the other poor reviews I have just read that sound similar to...
