Breaking Up Is Hard To Do...
…even if it is just one of your favorite restaurants. But that’s what I had to do this past weekend. I’m now on Day 3, which is when I should be returning Luigi’s mix tapes.
I’ve been patronizing them for years - generations, actually. And whenever someone asks me to recommend the best Italian food in Kenosha, I enthusiastically suggest Luigi’s.
On Saturday evening, my family decided to place a delivery order. When I went to the mobile version of the web site, the “order online” tout was so large, I thought I would give that a try instead of calling it in.
Once you click on “order online” you are directed to the mobile app “Slice”. This appears to be a DoorDash just for pizza places. After entering in my address, the app told me that delivery was not available. I should have taken that as a sign as they have always delivered to my house.
I selected two pizzas and then tried to locate the chicken. The normal X-pieces were not listed in the menu, so I instead selected three chicken dinners, calculating that would be pretty close to a 9-piece. I added my credit card info and submitted the order. The app informed me that the order had been communicated to the restaurant and that it would notify me when the order had been confirmed.
About 20 minutes later, I received a message that some of the items in my order was unavailable and that I needed to contact the restaurant.
The conversation I had directly with the restaurant was lengthy and confusing. Ultimately the issue was that the chicken dinner offered on the mobile app was not actually available for delivery or pick-up. So I had to replace the order directly to the restaurant over the AND agree to pay for the revised order when I picked the food up, even though the Slice app had also already charged my account.
Everything up to this point can be attributed to simple mistakes. I make mistakes all the time. I try to learn from them, then I go on to make all brand new ones.
When I arrived at the restaurant I paid for my order and asked to speak to the manager, but not in a Karen way. I wanted to show him that the chicken dinner was in face available through the app (they did not believe me when I called the restaurant).
Instead of being apologetic, the manager was non-sympathetic. I asked him to consider that as a long-time customer, I was now having to go out of my way to get a refund from Slice. His continued response was that “no one made me order online.” I tried to counter by reminding him that Luigi’s had chosen and promoted Slice as a vendor. But over and over again he simply said that I chose to use Slice.
I also reminded him that throughout the phone conversation and my in-person discussion with him, never once was an apology offered. His response was that he would not apologize for errors that Slice made. This is after he agreed that the issue began because incorrect items were given to Slice for inclusion on the menu.
I waited a few days to write this review, as I wanted to do so from a place of calmness and not influenced by emotion. And I am still waiting on confirmation that Slice has refunded the charge.
I firmly believe that when someone shows you who they are, you believe them - the first time.
Unfortunately, Luigi’s has shown me that our relationship was not one of...
Read moreOkay so I have ordered takeout pizza from here a few times and had someone go get it. The PIZZA is very good. However I got the bright idea to go in and try the other food they had to offer. The second I stepped into that place was like stepping into the Twilight Zone. Keep in mind I worked in restaurants for 9 years. It was like no one in that place had ever worked in a restaurant before. We walked in the door to a sign that said wait to be seated. No one greeted us or even said anything to us for about 5 for 10 minutes. Once they acknowledged us we probably stood there for another 10 minutes. Then we were seated after about 5 or 10 more minutes. The waitress finally comes over. Once again it was like she never worked in a restaurant before. She didn't say anything just looked at us with pen and paper in hand. By that time we already knew what we wanted so we ordered both food and drinks at the same time. Then we continue to sit there for at least 35 or 40 minutes. Just waiting on two meatball bombers and a chicken parm. I got a meatball bomber. It was big like really big but that's all I can say about it. It wasn't bad but it wasn't really good either mediocre at best. By that time we were just ready to leave then we had to go through getting the bill and trying to get out of there which was a challenge. The whole thing took way too long. They didn't seem very hospitable or like they knew what they were doing. The only reason that I gave them three stars is because of the takeout pizza I have ordered in the past like I said it was very good. But I do not recommend going there to eat stick to...
Read moreI hate leaving bad reviews, especially for a local family-owned joint. However, this was perhaps the worst dining experience I've had. My family reserved a table of 10 for Fri 6pm to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday. Yes, I know, Fri night, but the room we were in didn't have many tables and I think the server was the only one on! FOOD & SERVICE: My mom and her husband arrived early and had beverages served. The rest of us got there at 6pm and patiently waited for at least 10mns before we were greeted, and another 10-15mns before our drink order was taken. The food came out within a reasonable time, one medium cheese pizza and garlic bread first, followed by the pasta dishes, and my mom's spaghetti last. The server (bless her heart, I know she was busy and needed help) auctioned off the food by loudly calling out what it was and expected us to raise our hands or say me - this is a huge service faux paux. Use position numbers at tables and know who ordered what. The pizza was adequate, not the best in town for sure, but edible. I ordered the lasagna, which at a half portion was huge, but it lacked any flavor whatsoever. And I mean NO flavor. One bite, I was done. The meat/sausage looked like the frozen stuff you get from the store and the overabundant sauce drowned out any flavor there could have been. $13 for an inedible lasagna. AMBIENCE: basic chairs & tables with old school light fixtures, nothing unique or special. No host or server to greet or seat patrons - on a Friday night.
So, based on this visit, there...
