Pretty good experience dining at Ron's Place last night! The food and drinks are definitely 5 stars and outstanding!!! The service can be hit or miss and our service was good just not as attentive seems like we were waiting a long time to be greeted, to place our order, asking for water twice, waiting for the check just ok not bad service but not blown away by it either. Now the food and drinks did blow us away!!! We enjoyed our drinks which are HUGE and reasonably priced! Hubby had the Long Beach Long Island and I had a Mai Tai. Both drinks were HUGE and very good! They have about 25 different kinds of Long Island ice teas to choose from. If you sent a drinker they have non-alcoholic drinks and even draft root beer on tap! To start we had an order of cheddar cheese curds that arrived pipping hot with a side of ranch. Perfectly cooked not overly greasy and a good amount for one order. We both had the 5x5 burgers with cheese and fries. My hubby's burger was perfectly cooked medium rare. It was one of the best burgers cooked to perfection in the area! He always orders medium rare and usually it is over cooked. Not at Ron's - if you order medium rare that's what you get!!! Hubby enjoyed every bite! My burger was cooked perfectly too --medium well with just a hint of pink and super fresh. You can really taste the quality of the ground beef! So so so good!!! The toppings are super fresh and generous as well - nice red plump tomatoes, thick generous white onion slices, hearty green lettuce leafs - looks like green leaf or romaine not sad iceberg lettuce or shredded lettuce and all on a soft bun. The atmosphere is jovial with music playing and people having a good time. There's plenty of TVs to watch too. It is a bit small and gets crowded because the food and drinkers are great and they've been in business for years! If you have never been to Ron's and enjoy quality ingredients at a reasonable price definitely check out Ron's Place. The food and drinks are excellent. Service was ok too. I'd recommend Ron's Place and can't wait to go back to check out additional drinks and menu items....
Read more3:30 PM on a Sunday. We had just finished watching burger shows on t.v. Joe said, "We are headed to Ron's Place. Get your comfy jeans on." So we went. I'm a transplanted Chicagoan and I have never been to Ron's, so I only knew what Joe had told me about this little joint. He said it's small, they have 5x5's, and HUGE teas. Whatever, I need a burger, lezgo.
We walked in and they were packed to the seams. We sucked in our gut's and waited til a booth opened up. A nice man and his wife asked me if we needed a table, I said, we sure do! We chat chitted a bit about where I was from and how it was my first time there. Long story short, T-15 minutes til I get a burger into my belly!
Our server was wonderful, she was definitely overworked, but Amber was incredible. They are known for their beer list, their HUGE strong long island teas, and their 5x5 burgers. I had the original long island iced tea, which I swear was 24+ oz... you only need one. Joe had a Blue Whale...again, only need one! I had the original 5x5 burger with cheese, tomato and lettuce. The ketchup and mustard are on the table as well as the onions and pickles - they store them in tupperware containers! Cute! I had regular fries with my dinner... amazeballs. Joe had the italian fries, which are like a cross between crackers, bread-sticks, and love. After two huge burgers, 2 sides, and 2 gigantic drinks...our total was $27. I kid you not.
This place has been around since 1972, and it's easy to see why. Their food is incredible. The building is full of character and the staff is incredibly friendly. I will absolutely be...
Read moreTerrible experience! Arrived with a reasonably sized group of 5 people. Was told by a host that the wait for a table was 15 minutes. Our group waited for 20 minutes before asking for an estimate, when we were then told it was going to be around 45 minutes by a different host. How could the two hosts be so unorganized and not be bothered to communicate literally at all? As if this wasn’t bad enough, I walked downstairs to find a table for 6 sitting completely empty, cleaned, and ready to go. Not to mention, we were first on the waiting list so this table definitely wasn’t for any other group. As a server myself, I can honestly say our waitress was rude, and she never introduced herself or even asked how we were doing at all. Instead, she rudely introduced herself by instantly barking at us asking if we had paid for our drinks that we brought down to our table from the bar upstairs. What a first impression! She then took our order and we proceeded to wait for an hour and 30 minutes with no food in sight. After asking about it multiple times, we finally got an answer from our server that the kitchen staff lost our order, but were going to rush to get it done. Long story short… we never got our food even after waiting another 30 minutes. We notified the manager, and left without ever receiving any food as after 2 hours we had to get home. Staff was overall clueless, unorganized, and rude. However, Thomas, the manager I spoke to, was actually very kind, apologetic, and offered to allow us to...
