"Homely", that's how my girlfriend described it. It's definitely one of my favorite place to eat in Seattle Metropolitan Area and I am definitely coming back to try out the things I missed.
The Aloo Tikki chat was perfect, the Dal Makhni was different, but amazing. The Chai was good too. Their rice was perfectly cooked as well. Taking the kheer (rice pudding) with me, will update you folks once I try it. Highly recommended for authentic north indian style food. Also, the place is fairly well maintained, and the staffs great too. I think their restrooms are not open for guests, I can be wrong.
Update - Kheer was amazing too. 😄 I had to come back. My friend was visiting from Omaha and I had to give her the best of Seattle had to offer. This ended up as her no 1 place too. It's a drive from where I live but it's well worth it. The staff was amazing, the person who waited my table (was maybe the owner) helped us in deciding in our full course. We started with the Aloo Tikki chaat my girlfriend was fond of, masala papadum and chicken malai kabob (don't remember the name). You have to try the masala papudum. Chaat was as fantastic as the last time, and the kabob was delicious (a little underwhelming than the other two). In the entrées we got ourself some bhindi masala and mushroom karahi. While both were amazing, bhindi masala got us licking our fingers. These guys take some time in bringing your food, and there's a reason for that. While I have seen most places to have a very boiled up, and not well cooked masala, it feels like these guys take time to cook your food well. We overheard the table next to us complaining about the delay and I, in my mind was like, "Shut up folks, don't make them change their style. There are handful of places who cook food well. Don't make them mess up". Anyways, coming to dessert, for a kulfi lover the Malai Kulfi is a must try. The best kulfi I have had for a long time.
In short, if you are in Seattle metro area, give them a try. You won't be disappointed.
To the owners - please don't change. I have said this to numerous restaurants and watched them change over time. I hope this one remains to be as a...
Read moreWe live in West Seattle and was in mood for Eastern Indian food. We happened to be at our grandkids soccer game and come up to try. The only disappointing thing on the visit was that they had my 3 favorite Chaats on the menu (Pappdi Chaat, Panna Puri and Bhel Puri) and all three were noted as not available and appear to no longer offered. So plan D for the Chaat was Samosa Chaat. It was a perfect balance of a little sweet, a little tang, a variety of spices and textures. We also ordered medium and it provided this nice warmth that laid underneath the flavors. We both highly enjoyed. (By same token, even more disappointed because if this was that good, my favorites must be really great too). We then had Butter Chicken, Aloo Gobi, Garlic Naan, a side of mixed pickle and a mango lassi - all at medium spice level. The butter chicken had a nice balance of flavors and was nicely treated with fresh herbs. The chicken itself was not a throw away. It was cooked perfectly to have the proper texture. The Aloo Gobi (potatoes and cauliflower) were cooked well, spices again we're flavorful and proper. The garlic naan was not just a brush of butter and some garlic pieces added. They did a nice job of seasoning the top of the naan for flavor and appearance and was one of the better naans I've had in the PNW. I've had my rounds of the above from many places. Some better than others. The folks at Indian Bistro feels like going to a mom's house where they do their dishes well and have their own little tweaks to the standard recipes to make them better and their own way. It would certainly be great if they offered thalis to give glimpses into what they do well in a sampler plate. We had a favorite place on beacon hill that we visited at least once a month to have their different highlighted thali. I prefer those over buffets. The server was nice. It wasn't busy when we went right after they opened for lunch time. We will be returning, for sure, and exploring more...
Read moreBest Indian Food experience in Washington State so far. I am from South India. I and my husband went to the Salt Water Park and instead of our usual place at Federal way, decided to try something new. We found this place 11 min away from the park. Friendly beautiful place; nice comfortable booth. Ramik was our waitress, attentive, friendly and quiet. We started with chai and we knew we got to the right place. They gave it with raw sugar on the side. Then we tried the samosa chat. Went on to eat some lemon rice and peshwari naan (I never ate this naan before, we loooved it and it was worth breaking our gluten free diet). Paneer Bhurji next and we were almost content but we could not pass up the dessert. We shared khoya kulfi (best Indian ice cream;you ought to try). The thing I liked about this restaurant is that there was no rush. We spent nearly two hours. Food was fresh, served hot and they did bring everything on top of each other. We really loved the food and portions but also the time we spent there eating and enjoying every course of the unconventional way we ate. We are picky vegetarians living in Tacoma. I can see many more visits to Kent to eat all the offerings on their varied menu. Can’t wait. Still smiling after 3 hours thinking about the leftovers in the fridge. I do wish they will consider non styrofoam for leftovers. As for me, in the future, I will be carrying my Tupperware for leftovers. The restrooms were clean and women’s bathroom had a...
