Stumbled on this place and it is finally open! For locals in the know this has to be the most chaotic opening since the building has had 'Grand Opening!' and '50% Off Everything!' signs plastered all over the building for over a month as they went through construction.
Currently the signs say 50% off on Fridays so I strongly recommend giving this place a try as the value is insane.
When I dropped by the music was a bit too loud so even the staff had trouble making out orders which was slowing things down. Maybe keep a few to-go menus nearby so people can just point out what they want when communication failures happen as there were multiple instances where orders could not be taken as the cashier didn't recognize the menu item being ordered. Aside from those hiccups with a new menu, the staff were working fast to service the line going out the door and were pretty friendly if frazzled. More defined queue lines might help as it was unclear that there were two lines (with one being cash only) until the other cashier started yelling at the top of her lungs. Before that we sorta got confused at who was next as we blobbed up in front. Getting the food was also somewhat confusing since they kept switching between calling orders out by number or by items and with their 'unique' menu item names it was hard to tell who was up so they had to repeat themselves several times.
Lastly was.the food. Had the Super Nachos and the Choncho Burrito (yeah...unique name) and in total it set me back less than $10 bucks (INSANE Value!). The super nachos were AMAZING š. A little light on the cheese but it was just right with all the steak, cream, beans, salsa, and guac piled on top. We had every chip loading with flavor and ran out of chips! I actually used maybe 1/5 of the toppings and added it to the burrito. The Choncho was good but mildly disappointing compared to the nachos. The special part of several of their burritos is the use of fries instead of rice for a starch. Unfortunately that doesn't travel very well and is very under seasoned compared to the rest of the fillings. So while the nachos were 'never ending flavor with every bite', the burrito was Russian roulette of 'oops...got a mouthful of starchy unseasoned potatoes'. If eating in the store and they stayed crispy they might provide a contrast in texture, but it felt like they were cut too thickly and fried too lightly to retain any crispiness in the middle over the burrito after any stretch of time. A serious downside when the place promotes its drive-thru and you can expect travel with food.
Salsa bar provided just a bit of heat and acidity to cut through the heavy oily flavors of meat, cheese, and beans. Pickled carrots and radishes make a nice pallet cleanser and a squeeze of lime brightens up the food for a change of pace. I did hear complaints that green tomatillo (mild) salsa was a bit too bitter and off putting though for what we had.
TL;DR - Good food at amazing value that finally arrived. If they can maintain and improve at this level post go-live it will become a local quick fix favorite. If standard dip from the stress of being 24 hour operation then give it a try now while they are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI do not know what this 3.2avg review is about. People don't know taco shop obviously. Best taco shop taste/food in the area. So glad I found this place. Wasn't on Google the first time I went. It's open 24/7 which i LOVE with my work sched. YES, I LIKE DINNER FOOD EARLY IN AM. Dont make me order off bfast menu! The refried beans are on point. Anyone who knows Mexican knows all you have to do is taste the refried beans to know about a place. My taco enchilada default combo is PERFECT. Had some San Diego nostalgia.. Tried the Washington burrito today. Wouldve preferred more Pico n cheese but it was good. No shortage of meat, asada not dry the potatoes were surprisingly good. I don't divert on my go to's often but wanted to try the 'famous' Wa burrito š The pico is fresh, chile/red sce is not SWEET.. i hate places that ruin red sce by making it smokey n sweet (gross). The portions are big, burritos are huge. So the prices are extremely competitive. I have a feeling the low rating avg is due to the small number of ratings since its finally...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a really strange place. Super cheap, but the food is just not for me. I've had the carne asada burrito (2 times), the adobada burrito, and the grande nachos. The burritos are almost all meat. Most of them only come with meat, guac, and pico. Some people might love the very large quantity of meat, but I would love some beans, or at least more pico. It is 90-95% super dry meat. Which is very weird since pico is definitely cheaper. The first time I got a carne asada burrito it had nothing but meat and I could barely choke it down it was so dry. I would assume they forgot to put the other ingredients. I got the nachos tonight because I really want to give them a proper chance. It was an insane portion and super filling. It had a nice amount of guac, sour cream, meat, and pico. However, the cheese was not melted at all. I have never had nachos with a pile of unmelted cheese on top. Overall, much cheaper than the last place but the food is sadly...
