Lots of machines. Their special offer to get you to join is not working at all. I don't like the moving charges that very by the time of month you join. I hate the sign up process. I went through less to buy a car. You can't just use a credit card? You need a bank checking account and a routing number? Really? For $11 a month I have to go through what feels like a mortgage loan? When all is said and done the place is a nice place to work out. Employees are friendly and helpful. The place is very clean. I like it there but they should reconsider their invasive sign up process and their bazaar system of billing.
RESPONSE TO OWNER'S RESPONSE BELOW: Like I said, I will continue to come back, but trying to position the odd practice of REQUIRING a driver's license number, a bank account number and a routing number as a CONVENIENCE for the customer is really a stretch. I believe most people are like me to the degree that it's uncomfortable to hand out all that personal information for what amounts to $11 per month. Thanks for listening. I only hope enough customers who feel the same way express their opinions about the invasive sign up process and make your company see the light and soften the requirements to a a credit card, which will get the job done for you 99.999% of the time. Have a great holiday.
And one last thing. You have the best deal around-- you do. You do not need to resort or borderline misleading promotional language. Signing up for a dollar would mean (to most people, I venture to say) that you get your first year's annual fee for a dollar, not that "we'll take a dollar in November, and charge you an annual fee in February. I believe it would only be ethical to disclose, "Sign up for $1 today and not pay an annual fee until Feb." That would be a best practice, in my opinion.
For those who read this, I still think Planet Fitness is the best deal around. I just think their administrative and marketing efforts could use some 'massaging.'
9-22-2020 Another quick update. We decided to cancel our membership. My wife and I are seniors and are still uncomfortable with working out in a gym. In this COVID environment, many of your customers will feel as we do, that it is not yet safe to work out in a gym. I believe you should have given your customers the option to continue membership suspension until such time that it is safe for all to enter gyms. That said, your cancellation policy of being UNABLE to cancel a membership online, by phone or by email is RIDICULOUS. You are required to enter the facility to fill out a form (in person) or send a certified letter to you, which also requires an in person visit to a post office. This is bad customer service. Your cancellation policy is an extension of your ridiculous sign up policy, requiring far too much sensitive ID. Your customers do not need to use your gym equipment. They can get plenty of exercise jumping through your hoops to sign...
Read moreThis was must first visit here. I came because I joined on line, paying for a one years membership and was told I couldn’t work out at another planet fitness because I had only joined this one. 🙄 Keep in mind, all the planet fitnesses are owned by the same company in this area.
I let the polite counter person know about my terrible experience at the other location and she recommended I cancel my previous membership and get a refund and then open a new one at her location.
Keep in mind, I’m just trying to work out for the first time at a gym I just joined before work and have had to go to two gyms so I could be told to cancel the membership I have and then create a new one. At this point, I realized planet fitness was not going to let me get a work out in before I went to work.
I agreed, cancelled the membership and then tried to open a new one. This one required both a credit card and checking account. Keep in mind it’s 2022, I can pay with my phone or watch at most places but planet fitness wants me to have a routing and account number, which I didn’t.
I ended up not setting up a new account and left the second planet fitness I had visited that day without working out.
This company doesn’t have a plan to provide basic customer service and doesn’t have any way for folks to adjust a membership let alone let us work out.
There are better gyms in this area. I found one - 24 fitness - and joined it and worked out the next day without problem.
I had heard terrible things about planet fitness and wow were they true. Don’t...
Read moreYou don't want my review. Ha. Joined last year. 2023 Feb. Decided for the all access membership. Less than 30 days into my term my husband and I were charged $53 a piece plus our monthly fee. We went in "$53 Is your yearly membership fee". . But we just joined 20 days ago? They said it was in the paperwork. Good lord! Then we have both had compromised debit cards through the 12 months. We went in in person multiple times to fix it/add new card # to acct "manager in a meeting", "manager left early, "manager is the only person to help", "manager leaves early on Friday" So for working people we were having a VERY hard time accessing help and getting questions asked as new gym members. Right? Hello? Anybody there? So finally we catch a manager before leaving "we need all your info again, routing #, acct number etc ". We do it. $15 late fees on both accts from August to March. Go in March 24. No help. Our acct # and routing # us and has been the same. All that has changed is the debit card # as it was compromised. So today $53×2 for annual fee + again $15 per month per membership for late fees because THEY can't access bank of America as quickly as we can come in to tell them our new # Does this actually make sense to anyone? We have had a problem since Feb 2023 when we joined. Ongoing. Spent so much in fees and misunderstanding it's terrible. I canceled today in person. I'm exhausted of all the round and round. My husband will likely be behind her. Not my problem....
