My wife and I chose to visit Wahoo's a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant was full, as it was dinner hour in Kerrville. We ordered fried pickles as an appetizer, and I ordered fried oysters as a main course. My wife went with fish and chips, probably the most popular menu item. The waitress brought out enough fried pickles for a table of 6, it was over the top too much. They were average, standard fare. Our plates arrived, and everything looked great, as usual. Appearances are important in a meal, the feast starts with your eyes. When I tried my first fried oyster, I was devastated because they were tiny and greasy. Having grown up in the southeast, I am accustomed to calabash style seafood. This was landlocked style, and it was not good. I ate a couple more, and they didn't get any better. My sides were okay, so I ate what I could of the French fries. My wife said her fish wasn't quite cooked long enough, and was a little spongy. We asked the waitress for a to go box, and talked ourselves out of actually putting any leftovers in it. We ended up leaving more than half of our food, which rarely happens. This was our third or fourth visit, and up until this visit we had been blown away by the food, it is usually excellent. We are taking a break from Wahoo's, there are many other choices...
Read moreMy family and I tried Wahoo's for the first time yesterday. This is easily out new favorite restaurant in Kerrville. We started with the crab fingers which came on a bed of rice pilaf. I thought our child was going to fight us for this appetizer. It was delicious. Our child ordered the shrimp boil for her main course and let me just say this child does not like to get her hands dirty. By the time she finished her meal, she had the sauce all over her hands and she did not care! My husband ordered the blackened red fish with ponchartrain sauce. He said it was easily the best red fish he's had. I had the NY strip with ponchartrain sauce. I typically do not believe a good steak should have any type of sauce on it; however, I wanted to try a sauce so I went for it. I can honestly say that the steak would have been perfect without the sauce, but the sauce was not covering up anything. The meal was just delicious. Next time we are going to share a plate so we can...
Read moreTry the off-menu special blackened Redfish with Ponchitrain sauce over rice pilaf. It's authenically New Orleans style, creamy, buttery, and properly seasoned, not overly salty. It's served with Wahoo's bacon-and-sauteed onion fresh green beans, simple but really tasty. This meal is relatively expensive, more than the regular menu items, but well worth the fresh fish and careful preparation. Wahoo's is deservedly Kerrville's "new" (having moved from Sidney Baker Street to Junction Highway) go-to restaurant. Careful detail is evident in fresh decor in an existing location and competent waitstaff, drawing a large lunch...
