This is not your typical "texmex commercial Mexican food" place...which is good. Our first mistake was visiting this establishment at 4pm. NO ONE was there...duh. The staff was even hard to find. Sooo we obediently "Wait to be seated" in the lobby and stood admiring the Christmas deco. Nice! A man walked through and went straight to the bar on the left side. A waitress finally came & waved for us to sit wherever. I asked what their specialty was and was promptly given the "Special of the day", which was the San Antonio burrito: chicken fajitas, rice, beans, cheese and chorizo in a rolled flour tortilla smothered with white cheese. I ordered this and hub got Mexican plate: taco, enchilada, carne guisada, rice, beans, guacamole. Both had water. I later ordered lemonade, which I never got. My burrito was just too much! Too much for one flour tortilla. Too many flavors going on. Better served with Ranchero sauce on top. Hub didn't have any complaints other than "gravy" of guisada which appeared to have more red/chili powder base. Would like to try their puffy tacos or gorditas. Serve parrilladas. Serve dishes that are non-typical, commercial Mex food. Will not "write them off". I chalk it up to not ordering the write thing and break-down in...
Read moreWe heard they have California burritos so had to try it out. It comes with beans in it which is not a California burrito. So I ordered mine without beans. It also comes with queso on it, which is not on California burritos. I got my queso on the side so I could try it if I wanted. It was good. I tried it with the queso and that was really good also but I'd always get it on the side.
It wasn't actually a burrito. More like a pile of stuff on a plate and a tortilla laid over it to make a burrito shape. It would be much better if they had bigger tortillas and you could actually pick it up and hold it like a true California burrito. Despite that, I will definitely get it again with no beans and the queso on the side.
Our oldest 2 kids 5 and 6 yrs old, had the kids hamburger. One who doesn't normally, ate the whole thing. The one who does normally eat well, did not like the burger. Our youngest 3 yrs old, got chicken nuggets. She ate them but they were definitely just frozen dino shaped nuggets. The kids meals definitely won't draw us back but they work for the kids when us adults want...
Read moreI came in here, honestly not expecting much; the predecessor and previous restaurant was Bella Vita, which many agree was the best Italian in town. Whenever an excellent place like that leaves, typically the next restaurant isn't as impressive; there was no exceptions made here. I was in a large group, we didn't have to wait too long for a table (thankfully) but when we walked into the dining area, it was dimly lit, which would typically signal a romantic atmosphere, but alas, it was simply too dark. It took about twenty minutes for us to get simple non-alcoholic drinks that were mediocre best. Then another twenty for the food to come out, which I would typically be rather understanding of if it were made fresh, however the food that was presented to my group was clearly pre-made and was also cold. One member of my group had to wait an additional five minutes after everyone else got their food, they only had a simple combo plate. Overall, it just seemed like an old rundown restaurant. Truly a let down, and most likely...
