Thai food, known for its unique blend of salty, sweet, sour, and umami, with a touch of nuttiness and spice, should be delicious no matter the dish. This was not the case at this restaurant. Quite frankly, the food here was subpar and unbalanced in flavor. My mother and I ordered two of their noodle dishes, hers was too sweet and salty and mine was simply too salty, no other special notes of flavor, like tamarind or pepper. Even as starving as we were, it was hard to finish our meal. Though edible, both dishes tasted of old ingredients, hers the noodles and mine the tofu. As someone who has eaten nearly bad tofu multiple times, I am very familiar with its sour, stale flavor. Putting aside the mediocrity that was the food, I am most upset that we were automatically charged gratuity despite being a party of two. It clearly states on the table or menu (I don’t quite remember) that parties of three or more are automatically charged. Unless I’ve miscounted, but I do believe my mother and I are only two people. I would not necessarily mind if the server was exemplary at his job, but he really gave “I’m here :(“ vibes. I understand that we all have our days, but that doesn’t justify this automatically added charge, especially when we tipped on top of that unknowingly. In conclusion, if you miss eating Asian and Southeast Asian cuisine, you can go here to satiate the urge, otherwise, I’d try to find...
Read moreSome of the dishes we ordered were ok - others not so much but above all the service was extremely unfriendly. The waitress gave us an eye-roll when we asked her upfront if we could get split checks (we ended up paying one check as she struggled to find a system that would allow her to split the checks in the right way). One of our friends has some allergies and asked the waitress about the ingredients. Although she did ask someone in the kitchen none of us had a good feeling about the information she gave us which is why our friend didn't order anything at all. Afterwards one of the dishes we ordered were mixed up although the waitress came a 2nd time to our table to ensure that she got the orders right. When it was time to pay the check (handwritten, not clear what items were actually on there) was just placed somewhere on the table where no one was sitting and no 'thanks' or whatsoever. Not even a look into our direction. We told her we don't want to pay the service charge they have already applied themselves because of the poor service. In the following argument we were told it is mandatory and no tip at all but rather a service fee for the chef and what not. To top it all, no manager was available. Apparently, he/she has left at 5pm on a Saturday night and won't be back before the following Monday. Do yourself a favor and don't eat...
Read moreJust a few blocks off Mallory square in Key West we found a nice little Thai place. First night we split a vegetable dumpling appetizer $9. We ordered steamed but it was delivered fried. We didn't want to wait for a remake and we didn't want to throw out good dumplings so we ate them. Pretty good.
We split a massaman curry with vegetables ($21.95). It was a pretty big bowl and really, really good! It came with a tiny side of rice for so much vegetables. It had an abundance of sauce and not nearly enough rice. We asked for another rice which ended up being an extra $3.
The next night we came back after a beach day where we skipped lunch. It was scorching hot (outside seating only) but our server put an oscillation fas on us. We started with a daily special of tempura sweet potatoes($10.94). There were 8 pieces and they were great!
Tonight's mains were drunken noodles ($19.95) with vegetables and a basil fried rice with vegetables ($21.95). Both were expertly prepared with generous portions. All pictures from the second night's meal.
Both nights our server did a great job keeping our waters filled. Tasty food, comparably priced with mains from other restaurants, but with nicer portions. Super friendly and hospitable...
