After staying in the Blue Room for 4 nights, it was easy to appreciate how spacious and tastefully decorated the room was. In fact, the entire property has been very stylishly remodeled and is located in a very practical and desirable area in Key West, close to amazing restaurants and amusing bars. Unfortunately, this all turned out to be superficial eye candy as we had issues with a non-operating ceiling fan, broken toilet tank valve and ultimately, the motivator to write this review, construction noise. After contacting management via text, we were informed they were aware of broken ceiling fans in some rooms and planned on replacing them soon. We were provided with a floor fan by a very friendly maintenance technician who also quickly replaced the faulty toilet valve. As for a resolution to the construction noise, we were comped an equivalent to half the cost of one night's stay. This clearly did not resolve the actual issue of having to be rudely awakened, every morning around 7 AM, to noise from the construction of a new building almost directly behind the hotel. There was no indication at the time of booking that there is construction being performed adjacent to the hotel property, and there will likely be none in the future. So, please be aware of this if you're looking for a peaceful stay there.
We really wanted to fall in love with the Grand Baloney as the pictures indicate a great boutique hotel experience, but sadly the first impression on this visit fell flat. On the positive side of things, the room we enjoyed was very clean, had a great shower, comfortable bed and bedding, and much needed air-conditioning that worked flawlessly in keeping us cool through out the stay. Other small amenities we appreciated included the presence of a blow dryer, steamer and some decent toiletries. That being said, the room could have used a small fridge and barware as we had to figure out how to enjoy the delicious bottles of wines we picked up at Uva Wine Shoppe.
We considered one of the many Kimpton Hotel locations in Old Town before this booking, but the many negative reviews turned us off. We will try the Marquesa Hotel on our next visit this year...
Read moreWe were extremely disappointed at our lodgings at the Grand Maloney in Key West during our recent four night stay. When we arrived in our room after using the fairly cumbersome multi-code check-in system, we were surprised to find no TV despite the fact that the pictures of the room showed a wall-mounted TV opposite the sofa in our room. We were also surprised that there were no cups, glasses or bottled water in the room and again surprised that there was no ice machine and no refrigerator. The coffee maker was not turned on, so that was also unavailable to us for more than half of our stay. There's also no live person available, just a phone number for customer service, who was only available to answer half the time. When we called to complain about the above items shortly after our arrival, no one answered. We finally got a call-back from a very rude and angry individual who, when he calmed down, agreed with all of our complaints. Before we left, we asked for a late check-out since our flight wasn't until the early evening. While we were granted a 12:30 p.m. checkout time, when we arrived at our room, the code had been changed so we couldn't get into the room. We were able to chase down the street for the departing cleaning staff to get us into the room. We had also asked for a safe room for a baggage check, only to be told there was none available, but that we could leave our bags in the common space (really!!!). The property could also use some TLC -- for example, we had to kick the door open in our room to go to the patio/pool area. The sweep of our entry door was so tight that you had to move it with your shoulder. There is no room cleaning, although we were told that we could ask for towels, etc. The depth of our frustration is that we paid over $3000 for a four-night stay and have received much better service from others for far less. Brightwild appears to be running its operation on a shoestring and it clearly shows. While the location is wonderful, I would think long and hard before...
Read moreI stayed in Room 5 (Blue Room) of the Grand Maloney (529 Caroline St, Key West, FL 33040, USA, floor: 2 Room 5) between Sunday, January 5 and Monday, January 13, 2025.
Great location! The house is located steps away from Duval Street. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Brightwild (managers of the property) are extremely responsive, especially when I noted that there were no coffee beans in the coffee maker in the common room.
I did not feel safe when I arrived after 8 pm and traveling for more than 12 hours. There were many things missing on this property: ---- The house does not have an address number on it or sign outside (Take a screenshot of the exterior of the house before you leave to stay here) ----The porch light was off so I could not see the black keypad on the front door. ----Brightwell forgot to send me the code to the house and my room, making my arrival very difficult.
In the future, I hope Brightwell improves the property by adding the following items to Room 5: a phone in the room, alarm clock, safe, kelnex (which I asked for and they said no!), Q-tips, full-length mirror, TV, water, coffee maker, and chest of drawers.
They should also add the following to the common room/kitchen: they had one small bar fridge (instead of two large fridges as described in the listing). plates, cutlery, and ceramic mugs instead of paper cups for coffee and tea.
Conclusion: I don't recommend staying here.
I do not typically leave negative reviews. I believe in travel karma and I hope Brightwell will take my suggestions to improve their property for other...
