Going to try and be brief, but I have a lot to say about this place, no spoilers. if you are going to Key West like most to party and shop, check out Dog Bar, and read no further. If you are like my wife and I and hitting Old Town at large for the history, first know this is not a 5 star review but an 8 star. Go to the Shipwreck Museum, don't go anywhere else first. We messed up big and walked out to the fort and that area, then we went here. Don't even question the fare...plunk down your $$$, and step (carefully) into the first floor. Go immediately back upstairs from the inside, find the guide on the landing by the rigging, then find a creative way to display an earnest interest in history. Stay and listen to everything she has to share, then go back downstairs and start over. Once you soak in the first floor, go back upstairs and talk to her again, then you will have a proper itinerary. Our only regret was that we had to cut her short because it was time to get on the boat. We are going back soon, and we hope she is still sitting there...(so sorry we did not get your name, or spend hours speaking with you, or if we are misidentifying you, we will make it up to you!) We did not just learn about shipwrecks, which I know a fair amount about, but she was a font of the local hidden history we were seeking. Going back ASAP to ensure a repeat experience...made our trip! Even if there was not such a wonderful guide, we would still be extremely pleased with...

It's not bad. But I think it's a lil over hyped. They do def have some great things on display but I think some things were recreations. Social media makes it look like a hidden gem and if you look in Google maps it will prob say not busy, and for good reason. My deal was that the plaques for the displays were soooo wordy and there was no tour option. It was a bit interesting at times when I took the time to read the descriptions. But to be honest, I think the plaques could be a little less wordy. Don't get me wrong, the look out point has an amazing view and immediately upon entering you're hit with this smell. It's not bad, apparently it's actually seawater bc the place is below sea level. There's a creepy sailor with a face projection which was wild and fun. But personally I don't really think it was worth the price. I think it came to $32 for two people. Honestly I think the garden of busts next door was far more interesting. I actually enjoyed reading the bust plaques, or hearing my boyfriend read them in a funny voice as he does. 🥰

Edit - I just want to add that I wouldn't request a refund. I'm not bummed that I gave it a shot. I appreciate your reply. I'm sure there are plenty of people that will appreciate the experience more than I did. On that note, I would return for the view from the outlook, so I will change my rating. I think it's more of a personal preference. I can tell that a lot of hard work went into...

This museum was overall very forgettable. It is small with very little to look at or watch. The price of the tickets are a tad bit overpriced for what you receive. I’ve read reviews on the museum where it states it takes around 45 minutes to walk through if you take your time and read all of the information. I absolutely disagree. I went in very interested and read through most things shown off and displayed, and we walked through the entire museum in around 15-20 minutes.

I found interest in the story of the main shipwreck that was recovered from the video that you watch when you first enter. I also thought some of the things recovered like the spoons or door knobs were very neat to see, too. But the only reason this review is not rated very low is because of the shipwreck tower you are able to climb at the top of the building. The view at the very top is very beautiful overlooking the island and the ocean. We were able to get some very pretty photos from the tower and it was also very interesting being able to look around and see the island from that perspective.

The tickets are a bit pricey for what you receive. But the tower is a very redeeming part of it if you want to see a nice view. I highly suggest not going into the museum on a stormy day or if the tower of shut down for whatever reason. That is the highlight of the...
