Tiendita Boricua — Restaurant in Killeen

I ordered sandwiches, frituras, and a plate of rice, beans, ribs and tostones. Food was good but service was so bad I will not return nor recommend for friends. All I asked was for a second plate (since my wife wanted a plate for her sandwich and fritura instead of using the paper bag. The lady at the cash register sent me to the other side (since she couldn’t walk the 7 steps to where the foam to go bikes are- those are the plates). The lady on that side asked me to eat while she took something to the back, I waited for a few minutes and couldn’t believe she couldn’t take a moment to hand me a foam box that I could almost reach myself. Another lady came out and when I asked her for it she said it was only for food orders… I showed her my bag full of food and mentioned all the items I had and I needed another plate, I told her to charge me for it… she called out to the first lady at the register who I first talked to (it’s only about 5 feet away) and she said something like “I guess give him one of the foam boxes, the lady went to the side and said “these smaller ones” (they are like the size you would put a slice of cake in). I couldn’t believe how ridiculous this was getting… the lady said “no the regular ones”. And after what felt like 5 minutes I got the 2nd plate I needed for my wife and I to enjoy our meal. It’s unfortunate that they would have such a scarcity mind set…

Pedí sándwiches, frituras y un plato de arroz, habichuelas, costillas y tostones. La comida estuvo buena, pero el servicio fue tan malo que no volveré ni lo recomendaré a mis amigos. Todo lo que pedí fue un segundo plato (ya que mi esposa quería un plato para su sándwich y fritura en lugar de usar la bolsa de papel). La señora en la caja registradora me mandó al otro lado (porque no podía caminar los 7 pasos hacia donde estaban las bandejas de foam, que son los platos).

La señora de ese lado me pidió que esperara mientras llevaba algo a la parte de atrás. Esperé unos minutos y no podía creer que no se tomara un momento para darme una bandeja de foam que casi podía alcanzar yo mismo. Salió otra señora y, cuando le pedí una, dijo que solo eran para órdenes de comida. Le mostré mi bolsa llena de comida y mencioné todos los artículos que tenía y que necesitaba otro plato. Incluso le dije que me lo cobrara. Ella llamó a la primera señora de la caja registradora (que estaba a solo unos 5 pies de distancia), y esta dijo algo como: “Supongo que dale una de las bandejas de foam”. La otra señora fue al lado y dijo: “¿Estas más pequeñas?” (del tamaño en que pondrías una rebanada de pastel). No podía creer lo ridículo que se estaba volviendo todo esto. La señora dijo: “No, las regulares”. Y después de lo que se sintió como 5 minutos, finalmente obtuve el segundo plato que necesitaba para que mi esposa y yo pudiéramos disfrutar nuestra comida.

Delicious food, gets pretty busy so...went there 3 different time to try different things such as Quesitos(cream cheese filled pastry brushed and topped with sugar) had yellow rice with pigeon peas and pork...had pork chicharron white rice, beans and garlic butter shrimp, a beef and a chicken empanadas....everything was so good with the exception of the empanadas...my kid had it the day before and did not like it, (which is odd considering I make beef empanadas every week at home and she loves them)so I came back to try them out and whoa..my kid was not lying...1st lots of dough and barely meat. 2nd why does the beef needs to be so mushy...it looked like a number 2 wet diaper...and the chicken. Was soooooooo dry...and no flavor...adjust that and your empanadas will thrive....Staff was really pleasant and helpful...and they put in work...Gracias...

The food is really damn good !!! Only a true island person and their decendants from New York knows what the food from the island of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 really tastes like and when the food is good you know that line is going to wrap around the block ! So yes expect to wait in line. But they move pretty fast because they know the soldiers have to get back to work asap and all the other individuals that are waiting in line have somewhere to go too ! I have never stopped coming here. This is my first goto place for Puerto Rican food ! Please try the arroz con gandules with pernil, the alcapuraría and the sandwiches cubano con todo ! ( make sure you ask what the ingredients are if your allergic to any foods !!!! )...
