I went to Koba Woo for lunch with my husband around 1230 on 9/14/16. The lady who ran the front was a bit nonchalant but I shrugged it off. I told her I am transitioning to vegetarian and could she sub the beef in my bi bim bob for tofu and she said no they don't do that there so I just got vegetables. then my husband got a bulgogi combo with overcooked beef and flavorless rice. I got a flavorless bi bim bop which are usually quite tasty if done correctly. The food took 30 minutes to be delivered to us. The banchan we got was different from the banchan the Korean customers received. The Korean customers where offered different rice alternatives and we were not. When I went to pay the lady running the front told me to step aside so she could attend to the customer who just walked into the place. I watched as they spoke in their language Hongul is it?? and I watched as she paid and got her pick up order. I then paid my $27 and asked for 2 to go boxes in hopes that I could spruce up our food at home and have it for dinner and she said ok but then told the lady behind me to step up so she can pay for her food. As, the customer was paying another customer came in and I again reminded the lady about my to go boxes she said ok ok and then told the lady that walked to step up to the counter. At this point, my husband that saw the interaction said nevermind the to go lets just leave forget about it. so we left. I had high hopes I would be getting very authentic Korean food and great service but I felt like I wasn't worthy to even be there because I am not Korean. No accomodations could be made for my lifestyle choice and even though tofu is cheaper than beef she said no however she still charged me as if I had a beef bi bim bop. I am very disappointed in this place never have I been made to feel uncomfortable at a restaurant. If you are Korean than by all means go to Koba Woo you will be...
Read moreI was working in Gatesville last week and lodging in S. Waco and decided to look at what Korean food choices one had in Killeen, TX (a place I had not previously visited).
Read several previous reviews before selecting what I would also term Korean traditional food.
I wanted mushroom tofu stew; however, the owner stuck to just the menu choices and instead I ate beef and vegetable tofu stew.
A substantial bowl of same was provided with about eight side dishes (which were each were very fresh and a nice change of pace for me).
The street out front had been recently repaved and I thought that a hole in the wall is not a correct description, but instead it is an eating place in a downtown area which has most likely served many for over 30 years.
My older brother served at Ft Hood prior to a SE Asia tour (but probably never visited a non-American eating place).
Believe this restaurant has taken great care of many over the years and whether you are a novice or expert with Korean food; it is a great value and a nice place to start.
Noticed many takeout orders by Koreans (Hanguk Seram).
It was worth the hour plus drive back to Waco and I’ll visit again if in the area.
Note: have been married to a Korean for over two decades and she is very finicky regarding fresh, etc. and I have eaten Korean food in both Seoul and Pusan (Busan) as well as locally in the DFW area.
If this restaurant was in the Dallas area, I’d be a regular.
Many prior review comments are very accurate.
Finally got the manager/owner to warm up a bit to talk with me.
I certainly appreciate her and what she...
Read moreWe just moved to the area. My wife and I have been married 42 years met in Korea. We live approximately 30 minutes away but this place was recommended. If you blink you'll miss this place. The owner took our order and was pleasant. The decor is minimum at best with a few Korean jade stone pictures on the wall. We ordered a variety of dishes/soup. We found the quantity of food was plenty. I've read some write ups here that some dishes were lacking the amount of meat or sea food. Although the soups weren't loaded with meat or seafood their used for favor. But even than my wife asked me to finish her meat not to waste it. The meat was very tender. Not fatty like you'll get some places. The side dishes were great could of been made in Korea. I don't like my Kimchi sour, this Kimchi was very fresh. The cost was responsible I also read some people thought other Korean customers had better faster service I didn't see that. I saw several Koreans come in that obviously go there regularly and some Americans that were treated exactly alike. The owner and my wife did exchange conversation after we finished our meal. Top notch Korean food...
