Macado's hits all the right notes. There are many menu options, the food is great, and the atmosphere is amazing.
The menu takes a good bit of time to go over how many options there are. Although it can be a little intimidating at first, a closer look will show that it's easy to navigate. If you can't find something you like here, it's your fault. No one can be that picky.
The number of options does not detract from the quality at all. Obviously, I wasn't able to sample everything, but the things I did try were amazing. I ordered The Titanic, a prime rib French dip sandwich with homemade chips. It was the best prime rib sandwich I've ever had. The chips came with a French onion dip that paired very well the sandwich. I tried my wife's Mac and cheese burger, and it was fantastic. Too often, I find that the Mac and cheese most places puts on a burger is nearly flavorless, but not here. You get all the flavors from each part of the burger, and it's terrific. For an appetizer, we ordered the chips, dips, and things. The pretzel with beer cheese was by far the standout app in this sampler. The pretzel itself was soft and very flavorful, unlike most places that get them tough and bland. My wife commented that the beer cheese was the best she'd ever had, and to the best of my memory, I'd agree. The appetizer also came with the homemade chips, which I have already covered, and chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were good but were outshown by the other two options.
The draft beer list could use a bit more variety for my taste. It has too many IPA's and too few dark ales. I would have loved to see a good English brown ale, but that's like finding a unicorn in this area.
The atmosphere is a mix of an oddities museum and the American history museum. You'll find family photos and photos with celebrities, music memorabilia, autographed movie memorabilia, and many other neat decorations. The things I was able to look at closely were very interesting. My family had to come get me twice when we were leaving because I was busy taking in the exhibits.
I had heard of Macado's for several years now and had never gone. I'm so glad I finally got to eat here, and I look forward to...
Read moreRecently, we ordered take-out from Macado's in Kingsport for my husband and me and his family, who were visiting us. The service was quick, and everyone was enjoying their food. I had a side of potato salad I had been eating when my fork struck something hard. I thought it was just the bottom of the plastic container, but upon closer inspection, I found a roughly 3" nail in my food.
We called the restaurant and spoke with a man who we think said he was an assistant manager. He said he couldn't do anything himself but that he'd contact his manager and get something for us that was "awesome" and that we'd hear by the end of the night or by the next morning at the latest. He was sorry about what happened and made a big deal about doing something/getting us something for our trouble. Honestly, we didn't really want anything for ourselves; we were merely calling to inform them that they may wish to check the potato salad for other surprising objects...
That was Sunday 6/7. We have not heard a word from Macado's since that phone call. My husband worked in the food industry, and we understand things happen. But after being told that they would do something about it and nothing being done, we aren't too pleased. We're thankful I did not hurt myself and that the nail wasn't rusted, but it could've been worse. We weren't going to post a review, but with the lack of responsiveness from Macado's, we felt it necessary to convey our displeasure with our experience. We know it was a freak incident. But what bothers us is how big a deal the employee made about the situation only to hear nothing afterwards when it was assured. It was poorly handled...
We gave this a three star rating because the food was great, and mistakes happen. But the response we heard now feels disingenuous and like we were duped. We don't know this for sure; it just feels that way, and that's...
Read moreAlrighty, let me start this off by saying I work in a restaurant, so maybe my standards are a little higher than most people when it comes to sitting down at a restaurant and eating but nontheless, this has to be some of the worst service I have ever received. First of all, my family and I had to wait seven minutes before someone even came up to the host stand so we could get seated, and it's not like they finally came up or noticed us on cameras, I had to CALL THE RESTAURANT and tell them we were at the host stand and had been waiting for someone to seat us. I have never in my life had to call a restaurant to let them know of my presence; that is absolutely ridiculous. Like what?? After the host tells us that she was sorry about the wait she basically throws the menus on the table and runs away before we can even get to the table. Our second issue was with the speed of service. It took absolutely forever for everything. It should not take seven minutes for drinks, it should not take thirty minutes for an appetizer, nor an HOUR AND TWENTY MINUTES FOR FOOD. Do NOT come here if you are in a hurry. Also!! We were the only people here when we first sat down, and one of three when we finally got our food, so it was not as if the kitchen nor servers were slammed. The restaurant was dead, they were just being lazy. Its not exactly inviting when you see your server goofing off and on her phone at the bar when youre not being served. Now don't get me wrong, the food was wonderful (other than them forgetting I wanted no tomatoes and taking FOR FREAKING EVER) but that's quite literally the only positive. I do not recommend coming here. It's to the point where im waiting for my server to come get the check (which is taking forever, like everything else, perhaps I should just leave) and writing this review. Such a shame. Hope they get...
