Tucked at 247 Broad St. in downtown Kingsport, Urban Brews & Creamery is a cozy coffee shop with a serious ace up its sleeve: hand-rolled, all-natural ice cream that’s crafted right before your eyes on a cold slab. Watching the staff spread, freeze, and roll that creamy goodness into perfect spirals is half the fun—like a dessert magic show! I tried the cookies and cream rolled ice cream, and it was a smooth, fresh delight, bursting with natural flavors. If you’re an ice cream fan, this is worth the visit alone.
The coffee? It’s decent—think solid but not stealing the show. Their organic brews, like the iced Matilda (lavender and honey), are creative, but not quite my cup of joe. Where they shine is service: the staff are super attentive and friendly, always greeting you with a smile that makes you feel like a regular. Parking’s a breeze, with spots nearby in downtown Kingsport, which is a godsend when you’re craving a quick treat.
When it’s not busy, this place is a fantastic hangout. The vibe is laid-back with cozy seating and free Wi-Fi, perfect for sipping a latte or munching a cinnamon roll while people-watching on Broad Street. It gets a bit hectic during peak hours, so aim for quieter times to soak in the charm. Urban Brews & Creamery isn’t perfect, but those rolled ice cream creations make it a downtown gem. Grab a roll and chill—you...
Read moreSo today I wanted to do something different with my girlfriend, I’ve been seeing a lot of post on my fb lately. We loved the pictures of the rolled ice cream ,so of course we had to try it. Again we never been to this establishment so we stood to the side and read the menus. Not knowing what to expect since we didn’t see an ice cream box on display. We simply asked the cashier since it was early are they selling ice cream, the 3 employees laughed like if we were stupid to have even asked. Again our first time being in the place. Not very helpful or considerate. I found the staff very rude and nasty. Tried to order two coffees to pair with the cookie and cream ice cream, and the barista said they didn’t have any drip coffee… confusing since the cashier literally just told us they have ice cream because that’s the whole reason for the place.. yet I couldn’t get a cafe au lait…. That’s no problem for me to change the drink so we just got lattes and my girlfriend asked 4 times for almond milk as an alternative to dairy milk and I was charged, yet was still not made with almond milk.$20.00 for 3 items and rude customer service. No thank you,il rather drive to...
Read moreWhile the coffee is really nice and the staff were great, the lunch food here is overpriced and the atmosphere definitely appeals more to millennials (although the pastries and ice cream is AMAZING, I would recommend that), with all of this coming from a college student who came to try and get some work done. The clubbing music in the background clashes with the attempt at a cozy atmosphere which comes off more generic and gentrified than much else. Again, if you like more modern approaches to cafes this is a great place to come to! Unfortunately if you're a broke college student wanting a cozy place to study or get work done (while also wanting to get food that won't make your total over $20), this isn't the place to go to. : (
The BLT was pretty good though at least, I will say that, but...
