TLDR: The food was very good and it is always great to see more vegan / gluten aware restaurants. Get the Devil Wings and Cauliflower Bombs but beware that the portion size isn't large. I will visit again and will recommend to friends but it was little too pricy for me to visit regularly. We spent $100+ to feed two and completely finished everything we ordered. They are busy. Order/reserve in advance.
In detail, my quest and I ordered four appetizers and split an entrée and dessert. The Devil Wings and Cauliflower Bombs we unique and beautifully flavored with a mild spice. If you enjoy flavor and mild heat I highly recommend them. My one complaint would be that portion size for these two items was smaller than expected and desired. My guest and I easily finished them both off and were left wanting more.... so much more. The fresh rolls were standard. No better or worse than any other Thai restaurant. The House-Made Pot Stickers were tasty but were slightly smaller than expected and while I enjoyed the presence of the sesame oil mentioned on the menu and the way it played with the dipping sauce, my guest considered them to be greasy. The Old Style Pad Thai was slightly different in flavor than your usual Pad Thai but it was quite good. The jackfruit we requested with it was some of the best prepared jackfruit either of us had ever had in both flavor and texture. While most jackfruit offerings in restaurants and stores come shredded accompanied by large chunks of -meat- and seeds, the jackfruit that came with our Pad Thai was full of flavor and minced creating a soft uniform experience surrounded with a light crisp from being fried/grilled/seared. I will definitely be trying to replicate their preparation method the next time I work with jackfruit at home. The Mago Sweet Stick Rice we ordered for dessert was unique and the textures and colors stirred conversation. The flavors were subtle and the sweetness was low aside from the mango slices. We also split a kombucha. The fizziness was good, not too strong, not too flat but the flavor was thinner than expected. It washed my food down and cleaned my palate but didn't really add anything meaningful to my meal. As I mentioned before we felt the food was very good and it is always great to see more vegan / gluten aware restaurants. I will visit again and will recommend to friends but it was little too pricy for portion sizes that were smaller than desired for me to visit regularly. I know that this is because the restaurant is dedicated to a lot of different clean and sustainable ingredients and supplies and that those things are pricey. Unfortunately my budget just won't allow me to join them on their path often.
(The Pad Thai had a slight sweetness to it that reminded me of honey. Vegans that avoid honey may want to inquire as to whether or not honey is used in the kitchen. I was not able to find any mention of honey on their menu or website and forgot to...
Read moreI’ve been to the one in SLU, but eating here was nothing short of horrifying and we basically took our entree’s to go because we couldn’t sit there anymore. We called ahead and asked if they had outdoor seating since we had a dog with us, they said they had space for 4 and we were 4 so we rushed over thinking we were getting a table. But low and behold it was just a dirty ledge on the side of the window? And they put high chairs there? You couldn’t fit a drink in front of your plate it was basically that thin. They didn’t even bother coming outside and just giving it a wipe considering we were able to eat there. I specifically avoid Thai tea at vegan restaurants because I need my whole milk in it. I just asked the waitress and she said she had whole milk. I asked for it without ice. Both things weren’t done, there was a bunch of ice on it (I’m really sensitive to cold drinks) and there was like a drop or two of some kinda milk on top. I asked for it without ice, and they took it out. I understand the ice thing, i usually don’t get offended over that because it’s not common to ask. I did however need the milk because that tea was STRONG. And they basically took it again in the back, put a bunch of ice and two more drops of milk in it. I’m guessing they were using coffee creamer? I don’t know. It was disgustingly strong. Then coming back to the seating, this was lunch time and honestly I don’t know how they expect humans to eat there. We had no space to put the entrees, and the hot sun was burning our backs and necks. The appetizers were ok, cocktails were really bland and the mango and pomegranate both tasted like orange. I felt like I was being tortured to eat food at this place and that was just it, we asked for everything else to be packed and just ate at home. Not to mention this place is quite expensive. I’m usually not a complainer because I know businesses are trying to do their best, but this particular day we did call another Thai restaurant and they told us “we have outdoor seating but it’s really sunny so it’s your call”. I appreciate them so so much after this experience. Being blindsided into coming over thinking we were getting a real table and having the worst lunch experience wasn’t called for at all. That’s when you’re not doing your best, won’t...
Read moreTL;DR: pricey but healthy. All dishes vegan.
Parking: sparse during peak hours. Street side, parking garages, or public parking around shopping mall area; you just need to walk.
Atmosphere: small cafe-like setting with modern decor and light music playing in background. Limited seating -- the whole restaurant can seat 30 people total. Kitchen separated by a low wall so you can see and smell the food being made.
Menu: everything is vegan. QR code. Descriptive and has some photos. Prices are a bit on the high side when considering proportion to dollar ratio.
Service: wait to be seated, you will be watered and provided a small pitcher, order at the table. Service is a bit slow due to few staff. Tables were left dirty for quite some time after guests had left because all staff were tending to ToGo orders, waiting current guests, and ohone
Kid Friendly: they only have 2 high chairs available. Be warned during peak hours if your little one needs to be strapped in.
Fresh Rolls: refreshing veggies and great sauce but on the pricey side. There are 6 half rolls. Very satisfying if you need a veggie fix.
Curries: all default spicy, no less spicy option.
Classic Fried Rice: great flavoring but overpriced in my opinion. Comes with a nice helping of cucumber slivers instead of one slice like other restaurants.
Pad See Ew: the collard greens is a nice touch. I am a fan of the flavoring -- authentic and not overpowering! The noodle to topping ratio is pretty even too -- I had noodles and a topping with each bite as opposed to some places where you have nothing but noodles towards the end.
Mango Delight: the coconut ice cream was sweet and creamy with a shaved ice texture but the scoop is a tad on the small size. I would have preferred a bit of the coconut ice cream to go with the sticky rice. The bowl is rather deep so the photos done show just how much sticky rice is in there. The sticky rice had a nice indigo hue and had a great texture. There was a generous proportion of sweet and ripe champagne mangos. Overall, not overly sweet and a great dessert,...
