Short answer: Amazing food, allergy friendly, out of this world service from Gabe.
I was passing through Knoxville and needed to find a restaurant that had some gluten free/dairy free options. Looked on "Find Me Gluten Free" and the saw the name, Humble Hog, which caused me to explore some more. The website drew me in with the welcoming content and the ever apparent love of making great food. The glowing reviews were abundant on many different forums, but the ones from allergy people mean the most to me, and they were not in short supply.
Gabe served us and he is as delightful as he is so kindly helpful. He served up an amazing cocktail, the Humble Rita, to start. So good. Next, he gave this allergy laden food enthusiast, a moment to remember: "It's much easier for me to write down what you can't eat, then what you can. There's a lot of choices for you."
I had: Sticky ribs Kimchi Brussel Sprouts Bunless Pulled Pork
It was all truly so delicious. Embarrassingly enough, I got a little misty eyed when I bit into the brussel sprouts. It's so rare for me to get to choose from so many options that are not a salad. These amazing flavors were a true treat. Everything I tried was really good. I wish I lived closer and my stomach was bigger so I could of tried more of my options.
A couple of other points: Their leather chairs are unbelievably comfortable to sit in as you wander through the culinary delights. (I'd love to know where they are from, they are also gorgeous.)
Try the Humble Rita. Bring your ID if you are ordering an alcoholic beverage, you will be asked despite having a bevy of wrinkles and gray hairs. I have a feeling that even if you were there celebrating your 110th birthday, you guessed it, you would be carded. They are across the board carders, which I understand their diligence.
During my road trip I ate out a lot and experienced a lot of servers and a spectrum of customer service. Gabe is incredible. He is warm and friendly, thoughtful and genuine, discerning and willing to go the extra mile to be helpful. Customer service is not easy. Navigating food issues for patrons is not easy. Nor is it easy to be skilled at every point of great customer service, but there he is being professional but kind, attentive, and articulate. You can clearly feel that Gabe believes in the food he is serving. While I don't normally sit at the bar when I dine out, I'm glad I did.
Knoxville is lucky to have Humble Hog, I'm lucky to of eaten there.
Unfortunately, I was so blown away with the options, I ate everything without...
Read moreAlmost everything is GLUTEN FREE on this menu and it makes me so happy!!! The food here is SO delicious!!!! Super creative menu! Everything is al a-carte style so l got to try a bunch of random things off the menu and everything was delicious! The spare ribs were the best l've ever tried. Not even kidding, THE BEST. I couldn't believe how moist they were we didn't even have to add sauce. The smoked wings with the chipotle bbq sauce are TO DIE FOR. I didn't get a pic of them because late them so fast. The chipotle Mac n cheese is gluten free and SO flavorful. It's creamy and just the right amount of spice. The smoked crab is something special. It takes a little work and can get messy but it has a unique flavor you have to experience! The fries are made fresh and have a great boq seasoning on them. The pickled veggies are spicy and delicious. I couldn't stop munching on them. OH!! And the smoked bologna.... Do it!! They didn't have the bar menu yet but it's coming soon, so l look forward to that! Now on to dessert- The Banana pudding is made with banana bread (such a great idea) and it's moist and not overly sweet. Its perfect. It's gluten free and you'd never know it! I said to my husband in between bites of it "this is literally an experience by itself!” They also have this Vietnamese sweet potato cake I couldn't try because it's not gf but my husband got it and it smelled amazing. I did get to try the coffee sauce that comes with it and I wish I could order an entire glass of it and drink it lol! The flavor was out of this world. The restaurant itself is beautiful. It has a classy but relaxed vibe. Great date night spot right...
Read moreWow! I am a foodie and I eat at a lot of places across the country. I try to review as many restaurants as I can and this place blew my mind! I never expected to find good barbecue in my own hometown of Knoxville Tennessee, but that was the case the day I walked into humble hogue last week. I had no idea! Everything we had was a surprise from the fried pickles to the banana pudding. Each dish was made with care and with recipes that would make other restaurants jealous. Make sure you try the corn cake pancakes. I forget what they're called but they were delicious. You would think Knoxville would have good southern-style barbecue but we don't . Other than the consistent and pretty good/ok Buddy's BBQ there really isn't much to scream about. Some people will say yeah but there's this one place blah blah blah, but they're wrong. Until now. Now you might be correct when you say visit humble hog because they have great barbecue. We had ribs and I also had half chicken and french fries. So good! I'm taking my kids there tomorrow because I can't wait to go back. Kudos to the people there for offering so many gluten-free options and for taking such care to make their food special. I'm going to make a big noise about this place even though I know it's only going to make them busier. I hope they can stick around longer than other places. Everything goes out of business because their barbecue usually sucks LOL. Glad to have this 'new kid on the block' to make up for other restaurants who just couldn't rise up to challenge. Welcome to...
