I came to try out Lucky Lemon because my son has celiac and they have gluten free items. And I want to be fair so please read the full review and not just the stars.
The best part of the visit was the service. The woman behind the counter was amicable and informative. And, while we were there a woman came in who appeard to be a regular. There were hugs and seasons greatings exchanged between these folks and so I gather that there is a firm client base with whom the workers have solid relationships. As new folks however, when my order was up in the window, I ended up waiting several minutes for my order to be walked to my table because they were chatting with the regular. That said, they were polite enough and the service was on balance ok.
Atmosphere...this is a case of great and terrible all at once. The great; there was a bunch of local art on the walls and the interior had a light and fun vibe. We enjoyed the interior of the business while waiting for our order and there was a wide range of art on the walls so something for everyone. So that part was amazing. To the bad part of the atmosphere. There was loud music playing the whole time we were there. I suppose if that was your genera of music that could have been a good thing. However, not my taste or my kid's taste either and the fact that it was louder than background detracted rather than added to the experience.
Now to the worst part: the food. In the interest of full disclosure I am not a vegan or even a vegatarian. However, I have eaten both types of food and compared to my other experiences in this kind of cuisine and enjoyed much of it. But this was not very good. The onion rings had great flavor but were texturally gummy and oily as if cooked at too low a temp. The wrap just tasted of the ranch which was ok as I like ranch but super one-note. The bannana pudding was not good. The vanilla wafer layer was gummy and grainy, the pudding was too sweet 1 note and tasted of coconut overwhemling any bananna flavor there might have been. The non GF cookies were dry too sweet and not well seasoned in terms of salt vanilla cinnamon and as a result were sweet but flat due to poor salt and one-note flavors due to the lack of other forward flavors in the spice department. And for the quality/quantity the price was high. We got 1 wrap with onion rings one cup of bananna pudding 1 whoopie pie type thing and 1 bag of4 Mexican wedding cookies and that came to over 40 by the time I tipped. As I say, I am not the most informed on the vegan markets so this may be a winner for the area and also perhaps a fair price point for the type of food in this market/genera. What I can tell you is my kids did not finish any of their treats and I did not finish my savory dish despite going there after 2pm and it being my first...
Read moreEdit: updating my review a year later to say everything is STILL incredible! So good I had to write about it again. Food is just the best quality, fresh, and delicious. Staff are kind, helpful, and personable. There are always creative, in season, and delicious dishes on the menu, with classic favorites and new inventions sharing the stage. 100/10 stars!
If your vegan or not I just want to say this is one of the best places to wat in Kokomo! They always have wonderful food packed with flavor, and there is an endless stream of experimental stuff that finds its way to the menu for several weeks! The owner is very in tune with her customers and knows when to keep things around and when to keep pushing the flavors!
So far I have had several of their cookies and cupcakes, all fantastic, their patty melt, chickn sandwich, taco salad, and my absolute favorite the French Dip! Every bite from this place has been great!
Please done be afraid to give this place a go and have fun trying all the dishes! You will love it! My only complaint is I want more and can't have it...
Read moreHeather’s baked good are the best! I own a vegan compliant food company and first had her cookies at a market we both have a booth. Every week we get something different to try and it has all been just amazing! I didn’t get st see her this week because she was sick and unfortunately couldn’t make it and then had to close down for a few days because so sick. But, if you get the chance to try her out either at a market or at her storefront. You won’t be disappointed! And you don’t have to be vegan or plant based to love her food. It is just awesome in general! I can’t wait to make a trip to Kokomo and try out more! Sometimes I just don’t feel like cooking and I know her food meets my requirements. Yum yum and good...
