Food was fine, no complaints there.
Service was something else. Came in on a Tuesday for lunch while in La Crosse for a work trip. After walking in and sitting at a table, the gal behind the bar said you had to order by coming up to the bar. No problem, a couple locals were sitting at the bar and she was engaged in conversation with them. Waited and placed my order and sat back down. After getting my food, she disappeared for a break. During this time, a group was wanting to close out and stood around for 5 minutes before someone came from the back. Also saw 2 different people enter, wait a couple minutes and end up leaving. When the lady finally returned, she checked on the locals at the bar and engaged in their conversation but never checked the rest of the bar to see if anyone needed anything. I 1000% understand your locals are what keep you going, but as for someone out of town, felt like she could care less if I was there or not.
Atmosphere was fine. As mentioned locals were there and you could tell they enjoyed the place. Place was clean and in good shape.
Think there could be some training on service of checking on customers (refilling drinks, asking about how their food is, etc.) if taking a break, would probably be a good idea to make sure someone is keeping an eye out for customers entering the bar and wanting to close their...
Read moreFathead Steve's has great food and I highly recommend the chix bacon ranch wrap with pickle fries. Our work group recently had a bad experience ordering from them though. We ordered through eat street and when the food was delivered a whole entrée was missing. When we called the restaurant they said they never received the order for that entrée. when we checked the receipt on the eat street website the entrée was on there so maybe it was a computer glitch? Rather than apologizing for the error and offering to make the entrée they said we should bring in the receipt and talk to the owner for a discount and that we'd have to work with eat street to get our money back on the missed entrée. We were all incredibly disappointed by that response because a person in our group was literally left without a lunch. Fortunately we got our money reimbursed via eat street almost immediately but we wish Fathead Steve's would have approached the error differently and offered to make the meal anyway. I don't think our work group will order from them again after that experience but the food is still really good so i do recommend eating there but i just wish the online ordering process...
Read moreThe Ambiance is great. I can understand why people are hesitant to visit because it didn't take the place of a very well-loved Olde bar, and that hole still exists in some people. My heart is included in that list, I will always miss the old place. Missing the old place however should not in any way demonize the current business... Fathead Steve's is a great bar! It's well kept clean and it has a very efficient and fun staff. It's nice and open, and still has a pleasant menu. Please give this place a chance if you have been holding out because of memories of the old... It was very well stands on its own, and should be respected as such.
My one lasting criticism is that they do not know the breed of dog that gave the name and logo to the place. They say he's a mutt and I understand that, but for dog lovers it would probably be good to have...
