Doublz isn’t trying to be flashy. It’s just a good, no-fuss neighborhood spot that delivers on what matters: hot, hearty food at a solid price. There are a couple locations, but this La Puente one has become a dependable favorite of mine. It’s not a burger stand. They’ve got indoor seating, which already puts it ahead of half the small joints in town. It’s quick, casual, and clean, with a huge menu: burgers, sandwiches, salads, fries, onion rings. Whatever craving you’re working through, they’ve got something for it. But let me not bury the lead, the real star here is the Lunchbox special
For under $11, you get:
A JR cheeseburger
Two huge, crispy chicken tenders
And a grip of French fries—and I mean a serious grip
It’s one of those meals where you question the math. Like, how are they making money on this? If you’re into pastrami, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Their pastrami is better than The Hat’s, and I don’t say that lightly. It’s juicy, peppery, and stacked. Parking’s easy (lots of it, it’s in a strip mall), and getting in and out is stress-free. You’re in, you eat, you leave full. Or maybe you nap in your car with a half-finished Lunchbox and a fry stuck to your shirt. No judgment.
Final verdict: 4.5 stars. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t need hype. It just wins you over by doing...
Read moreUsually the staff is very friendly, even when busy. A lot of us at work love this location because they give the district employees a nice discount on Wednesday which is very helpful at the end of the month. My visit yesterday was not the friendly like usual. I had on one of my school shirts and the cashier would not take that as proof that I work for the district, but she would take my previous years school id without looking at it closely. She was very cold and seemed to be unhappy or put out that she had to give me a discount. When my order was ready, I started to ask for ketchup but realized she was abruptly putting a handful in and swung the bag at me. Again, she seemed put out that she had to give a discount and to serve me, I was the only one in the restaurant. I mentioned it to some of my coworkers today and they are saying that they have encountered the same person with the same attitude. I worked food services for many years before I became a teacher, so I know it is hard, especially in the heat and it can be tiring, and I was never pregnant, unlike this lady. If you don't like your job, don't take it out on the customers and if you don't agree that your location should give discounts, then find a different job or location. This kind of attitude and service can and will drive...
Read moreThe prices are out of control now and so over priced and I would go regularly from breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You have lost me due to your price hikes. / Thank you for your response and for acknowledging my concerns. While I appreciate your explanation about the rising costs and the need to adjust prices, I must respectfully disagree with your statement about holding prices for 18 months. As a regular customer, I've noticed consistent price increases over time, including significant jumps recently.
I understand the challenges businesses face with rising costs, and I'm willing to pay for quality food. However, the recent price increase was quite dramatic, especially considering the perceived value compared to similar offerings elsewhere. For example, paying $25 for a pastrami sandwich combo felt excessive, especially when compared to renowned establishments like Langers in LA.
Despite this, I appreciate your commitment to maintaining quality standards and refusing to compromise on the integrity of your food. While I may not be able to justify the recent price hike, I respect your decision and wish you the best of luck moving forward. Thank you for your response and for addressing...
