I ordered the Mushroom burger with no tomato. My son, the California Classic with no tomatoes, onions or lettuce (came with avocado, bacon, cheese, pickles and thousand island). My daughter got the Jr. Burger with no tomatoes, onions or pickles. My youngest daughter got chocolate chip pancakes and my wife ordered the Buffalo Bleu burger. The 3 adult burgers came with soup or salad, we all chose salad, with ranch.
The salads came out first. I thought the dressing tasted a little off and my wife agreed but not a big deal. Then I took a bite and PULLED A HAIR OUT OF MY MOUTH. A dark and long hair that did not belong to any of us. When the waitress came back I told her and her response was "Yuck, let me take that." I was definitely feeling disgusted from what just happened. She brings back the salad and I tell her "I'm sorry I didn't want another one, I pulled that hair out of my mouth." She says, "Oh well I'll take that off of your bill." Ok, not sure how much the salad cost, but moving on.
Our burgers come out and everything is looking good. Except my son's didn't have pickles so we tell the waitress, "So you want a side of pickles?" she says. I'm over explaining that he wanted them in the first place and she's telling me she heard no pickles. So speaking of pickles, the burgers came with a pickle spear, and my wife took a bite of hers and PULLED A HAIR OUT OF HER MOUTH. 2 for 2. Great.
We tell the waitress and she's asking my wife "So what do you want to do?" Again, no apology and she wasn't being rude, just kind of being neutral. My wife hates sending her food back to be remade for fear of something worse coming back with it. So she says to just take it and she didn't want it and the waitress says she will take it off of the bill. And my wife is saying that someone back there might need to have their hair tied up because it might be coming off, to which the waitress replies "Well I'm the one that brought it out....so..." So her hair wasn't dark and it was tied up. Go figure.
She comes back and is asking if my wife wants something else instead and my wife changes her mind and said fine she'll take her original order, after explaining why she didn't like to have it sent back, to which the waitress assured her "Oh I threw that one in the trash!" Thanks for letting us know!
So at this point I'm thinking my salad and my wife's burger are still being taken off of the bill. Not because we are cheap (Yes I know, we came for 50% off burgers but only because we couldn't pass up a chance knowing how good they usually are at full price). But because it would be the right thing to do.
And here's the kicker, my wife is waiting for her burger and we are all eating our food, and the waitress is at the next table and asks them "How is everything?" And the lady hesitates as she says "Umm... it's..." And the waitress chimes in with "Don't tell me you found a hair in your food!" Very classy thing to make light of, knowing we can hear it.
So we all eat and the waitress comes out and tells us she wants to send us home with 2 mini pies(one for each hair?) for the whole hair in the food incidents. The bill comes out and I notice nothing has been taken off (besides the promotional 50% off of the burgers, For National Burger Day). So I ask the waitress and she advised me that since my wife wanted the burger after all that it wasn't comped and that's why we got the free pies. Because you know, I asked for free pies to make up for the hairs, totally my idea.
By way, plain clothes girl (wearing a green t-shirt and jeans) was the only one with long dark hair and it wasn't tied up. Maybe she shouldn't be around the food? And after everything I really felt as if they thought we were trying to hustle them out of paying our bill, with the whole pie explanation and snide remark. Normally I would ask to speak with a manager but we decided we're never going back to this location, we'll stick to the...
Read moreOpen since 1978 this is one of the classic, famous diners on former Route 66. The service and prices were great however, the food was just good and given all of the steep competition in terms of other diners in the area I had to give D’s a four, but overall we still enjoyed our breakfast. Inside looks as you would expect from the outside in that it is a traditional, 1950s retro diner. I have been going through all the diners in LA County and this was one of my very last ones on the list. It’s located in eastern Los Angeles, in La Verne, in a sleepier part of town. There is a large parking lot attached so parking was free and easy. Also, our server was very polite and just like all diners everything that we ordered came out very fast for a fair price.
I usually get Eggs Benedict or a Country Fried Steak when I go to a diner, but this visit I wanted to try one of their newly added items: the Loco Moco. It was not the best version that I’ve had this year, but it was still really good, the burger patty was cooked perfectly, so were the eggs, however, the gravy wasn’t as tasty as some others that I’ve had recently. It was a very large sized portion, so I was quite full after finishing it. The menu does have a lot of other classic dishes on it, which I would try if I stop in again in the future. I would suggest this to anyone in the area, although there are a few other diners close by that I believe edge...
Read moreDinner last night was as usual excellent. Even though the parking lot was almost full very unusual, we knew we would be standing in a very long line but had our hearts set on having dinner at our favorite diner. We decided to sit ourselves at the counter. We were greeted by all the employees and manager even when "Super" busy. You would expect horrible attitudes and service, but not the case last night. We were served in record time, all servers checked on us with a smile. Food was excellent and fast as usual. Coming from a food service career, I watched the employees work with such precision along with the manager and 3 cooks. Everything flowed like a fine tuned engine. There was about 100 customers, a large party of about 25 were dining on the patio included. And the whole time communication between the whole team was top notch which made everything flow so smooth. Needless to say team work was at its finest when I thought it would be at its worst considering how packed it was. And the team always had a great attitude and smiles. Customers were vocal in how pleased they were. Apparently there are many "Regulars" as they were called by their names. This diner is a "Must" when in Laverne,California. We will truly miss our "Favorite" diner when we move to the east coast. Wish we could take the whole place with all the employees and...
