Mayan provides the most authentic Mexican food experience in Olympia! This credit used to go to Don Juan's on the Westside, which I still enjoy, however I was so thrilled when I visited Mayan Mexican Kitchen that I can declare them my new favorite. This place isn't for fans of inauthentic places like El Sarape. If you like Puerto Del Sol, you're going to love Mayan. The plates are hearty and flavourful. The salsa and chips are much less sweet than you'll find in most of Washington (which can be almost ketchup like in less authentic Mexican food restaurants in our area). And the service is friendly and paced exactly right. There's a few things that Mayan could improve on; for one, the menu is too long. They should remove 20% of their dishes to make choosing easier and the menu more nimble. And while I like their salsa more than any other in town, it still could use a little fine-tuning. The salsa has a cumin flavor note that took me a few minutes to adjust to, and I would ideally like to see that removed. I suggest their head chef visit some restaurants in Phoenix or San Diego and take a few notes on salsa tastes. That will elevate this restaurant to brand new heights. Those suggestions aside, Mayan is the Mexican food restaurant I've been searching for over the past 3 years since moving here from Arizona, and I've already been back multiple times! They've got a new regular customer who will always bring a healthy appetite for their authentic flair food!

This used to be our regular going out to dinner spot before we moved about 30 min away. We go back rarely now, but when we do I am always happy we did. Really good food, large portions, and specials every night in the bar area. The day we went it was $4 margarita night for ladies. All kinds of flavors - I tried the watermelon and it was really sweet.... but delicious! And it wasn't tiny either! They have free chips, salsa, & bean dip while you wait for your meals.... and they happily refilled it when the Mr polished it off. The service in the bar was excellent, friendly and quick. We ordered the Arroz con pollo and Diablo Shrimp for the entrees.... both so yummy and huge portions allowed for lots of leftovers to enjoy the next day! We enjoyed it so much we won't wait so long before going back again!

I love a good Mexican restaurant and this one didn’t disappoint. Good menu, huge portions and good service. Chicken Tacos - were stuffed with juicy chicken, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. It came with the usual side of rice and beans. Both very flavourful. Chicken Tortilla Soup - the broth was amazing and the amount of avocado was impressive. There was a lot of chicken and tortilla chips in there. I’m probably the minority here, but I would have preferred more broth and less chicken and chips. Loved the avocado though. Couldn’t finish the soup as it was so filling. The Piña Colada was really good. Should have said no whip, but didn’t realize it would be on there.

Tripping over dollars to pick up pennies. Soda refills and chips & salsa limitations? For many years I have considered Mayan a great place to go to for great Mexican food and service. The other day I went with 2 others and we all had separate checks. We all love their chips and salsa to the point we usually each get our own basket with salsa. We were told that they would only give us one basket per table. So by that logic we should've sat at 3 different tables if that's what we wanted. We ate them up in about a minute and the service was slow. Despite us asking for more chips & salsa we only got a total of 3 baskets our whole time there. They also said we could only have 2 refills on our soft drinks, they were just cokes. We've never experienced this before and it made all of us feel like they didn't really want return customers. Between the 3 of us we spent about $80. The food was delicious but the service was so awful that it might be a very long time, if at all, that we'll ever come back. If I do, I plan to vlog the experience. They should want customers to return and often enough. But instead they're tripping over dollars to pick up pennies. Not a very good business plan if you ask me. Needless to say this was the first time ever, that we didn't leave tips. This was at dinner time and we usually come at lunch time. We've been to all three locations. This was our favorite location. We've probably been to this location five times in the last month. I've had such good experiences here in the past that the manager had noticed how much we like chips and salsa and even gave us a bag of chips and salsa to take home. And I left at least a $10 tip myself. And it guaranteed my return to the restaurant. So whoever was the manager from the other night, be warned-You're not doing your restaurant any favors by passing on dollars by...

I have been here on multiple occasions and the food is always delicious and the service is usually great. However, last night my sister and I came to have dinner and we were asked to leave early. We arrived right around 9:00 as we saw on google they didn’t close until 10:00. Upon being greeted by our server we were told they were going to close soon we and once again confirmed that they weren’t due to close until 10:00. By 9:15 the music was turned off and the lights were dimmed and by 9:35 we were given boxes and told we needed to leave because they decided to close at 9:30. We were confused and a bit uncomfortable because we were under the impression they weren’t due to close for another 25 minutes and we were still in the middle of eating our dinner. As I said the food is always delicious but that experience made us feel very uncomfortable and unwanted. I could understand if we were staying past their actual posted closing time but we weren’t and we would’ve chosen a different restaurant had we known they were going to close...
