Okay, brutally honest review coming. I live in Olympia. I've eaten at this location numerous times...but not because I love it as much as for the pure convenience. I live only a mile away. They have a large banquet room that can be used for MASSIVE groups. My family used that room after a parent's funeral.
I'm just going to skip to the important part...the food. My family is split on sushi. Half of us love it, half of us don't. I don't. So I've never even tried their sushi. However, it is universally agreed upon within my immediate family that their sushi is really quite good, well above average. Unfortunately, I can't confirm or deny this.
Outside of the sushi, be prepared to be disappointed. They do have a grill station for their Mongolian BBQ and meat. FYI they offer steak and beef short ribs only with dinner, not lunch. For me, those are the only offerings in the entire restaurant that are decent, not great, but decent. I really like a good Mongolian BBQ (like Harvest Buffet offers up in Tacoma). The one here is absolutely pathetic. Very few options. They have some oodong noodles, broccoli, chicken/beef, sprouts, jalapenos, and eggs. I'm probably forgetting a few things, but it's really limited. The beef and chicken for the BBQ sits in a metal container on ice, and is the most unappealing looking protein I've seen. The meats are less solid, and more like a congealed liquid. I just...can't. It doesn't resemble food. So I've never attempted the BBQ, despite my innate love for good Mongolian BBQ.
When I go for Chinese, particularly buffet style, I'm mostly interested in their deep-fried, battered offerings. Things like sweet and sour chicken, General Tso's, orange chicken, as well as things like a good chow mein and egg rolls, and sometimes some fried rice. This place really fails at all of those. Their meats are always WAY overcooked, the flavors are bland and frankly not what one expects. Even if you rarely get things stuck in your teeth, you will here. The meats are all hard and stringy. I know better, but always put one of their awful egg rolls on my plate. Even drowned in soy sauce, I can hardly choke them down.
They used to have a soft serve ice cream machine which made up for their bland dessert offerings, but they ditched it a couple of years ago. Now they have some generic pre-packed ice cream cups (vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry). My kids like it, but anyone with a discerning palate won't.
Their sweet and sour sauce tastes like nothing more than watered-down corn syrup with red food coloring--in fact, I'd bet money that's exactly what it is.
I've learned over the past 15 years or so to avoid most of their entrees and stick with the fresh fruits, and foods you would usually feed kids. They have pizza and jojos, and if I go at lunch, I'm mostly eating these types of things.
As far as service goes, they have always been quick to seat you, refill your drinks (Pepsi, not Coke), and get your check when requested. But don't expect any small talk, they are not chatty or friendly. This is a wham, bam, thank-you-ma'mm kind of experience. Eat up, and make room for the next sucker.
In summation, the pros are: if you go at dinner service, you will have access to their steak and short ribs; sushi is respectable. Their fresh fruits are just fine--usually ripe, kept chilled. The cons are numerous. The entrees are not of the quality a frequent Chinese buffet flyer might expect. Their chow mein and fried rice are WAY below par. S&S sauce is laughable--thin and flavorless.
I would never pick this place for myself, but I keep getting sucked back in by my sushi-loving family members. Burger King is within walking distance, and I think the next time my family drags me back to this place, I'm going to just stick with water and enjoy socializing with them, but go have it my way across the street.
For me, this is a one star, but since others seem to really like their sushi, I have to...

Read moreThe worst dining experience hands down I have ever experienced!! Went here yesterday evening for dinner with my child and a couple of friends and their children. The food, all of it tasted as if it had been sitting under a warmer all day... Nothing was fresh, to the point that mid-way during my dinner and I had to run to the restroom and vomited. THEN while my two girlfriends and their kids were still eating dinner one of their workers comes over trying to collect payment for our dinners. We weren't even remotely done! She didn't listen at all to the request of separating out bills, so she had to go redo that. I paid cash and my two friends used their credit/debit cards. One of my friends bill total was $34, they charged her $340. And then tried to say they didn't when my friend showed her bank phone app proving they just overcharged her by $300. She had to get to the point where she was getting very upset before they even took it seriously and then after that my friend wouldn't not let them charge her card again (for obvious reasons) and they threatened in front of the whole restaurant to call the cops on her! I personally had to ask two separate workers for my change over 5 times not even kidding one bit. It was truly the most awkward and unprofessional experience at a restaurant I have ever had in my life. To say I will not be returning here is an understatement, I feel people need to know how they operate truthfully and if you are wanting to spend $18/person on dinner there are many many other good establishments to go. Definitely NOT Super Buffer in...
