As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for years (as a host, server, and manager) I very rarely have complaints when it comes to service. I understand how difficult it can be at times and always give my servers the benefit of the doubt. However, I was less than impressed by the service we received. The food was decent, however the service was enough to make us question a return.
As first time customers, my group was very excited to try something new. The first ten minutes of our experience was pleasant. Drinks and first round of food was ordered and came out quickly. However, as our first round of food was coming out I noticed a couple at the table next to us (same server) looking around and after 5-10 minutes they grabbed their checkbook and headed to the front, assuming they were waiting to be checked out, and did not seem happy.
As we ordered our second round of food some items were still missing from our first round so I asked about them and was told it would be coming out shortly. By this time all of our drinks were empty and we had a pile stacked neatly on the end of our table so it would be easier for our server to take away. Two of the things I say when I train any new servers is 1). if your tables cups are half empty bring refills so they don’t have to ask and 2). you never leave a table with empty hands.
Second round of food was slower to come out but the wait wasn’t too bad. Still no refills and after adding a few more dishes to our pill half of it was taken out of our way. After finishing our second round i finally asked for refills. I also informed the waitress that we still had not received 3 dishes from our first round and one from our second round. At this point I’m annoyed. The server appeared to possibly only have a four table section with only 3/4 of them occupied with only 7 heads. Our food is being brought out by workers other than our server so I’m guessing Food Runners were scheduled to lighten the load. I even went to the bathroom to see if the restaurant was busy and it was maybe half full. So i was slowly running out of reasons to be lenient.
We order dessert and ask for our bill just ready to leave and finally received 2/4 dishes that we had been missing. One of our desserts came out and we all sit and watched as he finishes his dessert. 10-15 minutes go by without the rest of our dessert and no check. We finally decided to just head to the front to pay and leave.
I am not writing this to be ugly, but I do however see a potentially major problem (as it was seen that we were not the only table that had to go looking to pay in the same hour or so) for a new restaurant who is hoping to build their clientele and gain some regular customers. I would recommend some extra training shifts for any employees that seem to be falling short.
I wish y’all the best and hope to possibly have a better experience...
Read moreMy wife and I normally love going here for a dinner date. Unfortunately, every aspect of our overall experience last night was the worst dining experience we've had in Lafayette. My wife, 5 year old daughter, and I came in at a busy time and waited nearly an hour for a table, as expected for a Saturday night and no reservation. We were seated in the patio area without even asking if we were okay sitting in this section. Sitting in this area we felt completed separated from the restaurant and forgotten about. Our waitress did greet us rather quickly and brought our drinks back within 5ish minutes or so. Being that we have frequented this location a few times, we already knew how we wanted to start our buffet orders. As I was waiting to request some of our items to order, the waitress immediately says "I'll be right back" not even 5 seconds after arriving to our table to drop off the drinks. Our waitress then stepped to the side of us where she had a 7 top table she was also servicing. She assists them a walks away without even glancing at our table and not noticing us trying to get her attention. FIFTEEN minutes later, she finally comes back to our table to take our order. We placed everything that we knew we wanted at this point, including our daughters hibachi meal. Now, from the point we were sat to the point we placed our order (which she never used the tablet but at the end of a time there) it was roughly 15-17 minutes. We didn't a single item for the next 30 minutes. When the 3 items finally came out, we recieved 1 nearly room temp soup, 1 order of spring rolls thay sat so long after cooking the the bottom was falling apart from sogginess, and room temp bang bang shrimp. Another nearly 15 minutes pass by and nothing has come out still. Also at this point, our waitress has never stopped by our table on her own accords, we had to wave her down twice for refills, each time she seemed to make a face of us bothering her. At this point, I was beyond upset, but trying to be civil about the ridiculous service/experience up to this point. I walked to the front, asked the hostess for manager, waited nearly 5 minutes for nobody to come out and just went back to my table. 5-10 minutes later we finally start getting the rest of our food, we finished, ordered a little dessert, paid and left.
Based off all other experiences we've had here, we may be back one day, but this put a terrible taste in our mouth. It will be a long time before we give this restaurant another shot with how much it costs...
Read moreI really really wanted to like this place. I was told nothing but great things by all of my friends about their wonderful experience. Unfortunately, my group did not have that same pleasure.
To start, the wait time was not bad and we were sat fairly promptly, which was a nice surprise for a Saturday afternoon. Our hostess was also very kind, so that's a wonderful way to start the experience. However, that is where most of our good things end. Our server asked if we had been there before, and we said no. We took some time to look at the menu while he got our drinks. One in our party ordered a coke, which they were out of. A little strange, but things happen, so we brush it off. Then we order our first round of food. I specifically ask if the simple rolls contain anything other than the listed name, to which I was told that they do not. This was incorrect, as my rolls came out with vegetables and other things as well (some sushi restaurants settle for plain rolls, which is why I asked ahead of time before ordering).
A few of our appetizers were cold, which makes no sense as they should be hot foods. The KBBQ was disappointing as it was already cooked and imo takes away the entire experience of it. To also put into perspective, we had FOUR proteins for this tiny plate all thrown onto it by the servers, to which half of it burned. Only 3 lettuce wraps, a tiny amount of kimchi, and NO RICE given for all of this. We reluctantly order a second round of food, and after telling our server 5 times total (he was either new or just didn't really know what the difference was) that we wanted one dish as sushi but the rest sashimi, all of them ended up being sashimi.
The food overall was bland minus maybe 2 dishes total. The rice wasn't properly cooked. The ramen broth and noodles were subpar at best. We only had ONE dish taken away from our table our ENTIRE time so we had plates and dishes stacked around. NO refills until the end after we asked. Once again, they did not seem very busy at all. Coming as someone who has worked in different positions in the service industry such as this, I give leeway when I can, but this was all just a poor experience.
To the owner, I don't write this to be ugly or to criticize too harshly. I want this place to thrive, but it must improve. The community sees the potential, but the food and service must reflect in that. I sincerely hope things get better before they get worse and can't...
