Update 2: Still infested with rats and roaches. Does management even care about this business? Sure seems like they are only interested in sitting around and eating while the rest of the staff look like they are ready to either kill themselves or everyone in the building. They really seem to be pushing themselves over an edge at this establishment. I get it restaurants are a lot of work. What I've seen here is really a case of negligence. Leadership is out of touch and so the whole restaurant is suffering. The future of Pizza Antica appears grim.

Update: This restaurant has rats and cockroaches. It's infested. Witnessed a rat run into the back of the restaurant and into a hole in the wall. Have seen cockroaches and other insects too. Management just hides the problem. Health Department needs to do a thorough inspection of this place.

I wish I didn't have to look up the hours for this business to remember what time they close. I'm the type of person who hates putting an undue burden on service workers. They don't deserve to be forced to stay super late because of one tables lack of awareness. Having your hours posted on the door is just establishing boundaries. It's not rude to do so. It's a perfectly legitimate move to make as a business. Especially if you don't want to waste money on unneeded labor.

The food is great. Recommend trying your next salad with a piadina and some fried chicken. The combo makes for an awesome salad wrap. The service is great. The staff are cool.

The only reason for 3 stars is cause I got there around 7:45 and didn't find out until after we left that they actually close at 8 pm on weeknights. I would have gotten my food to go if I had known. Again, I hate being that last person in the restaurant, and since I didn't remember the hours from when I looked online, I didn't have a backup indicator to let me know. I've overstayed my welcome. It really shouldn't be outrageous to post an open/closed sign and the business hours. Honest people appreciate...

I was a regular customer here for a number of years, but only get to eat occasionally after moving out of the area. During our last visit home we decided to eat at one of our favorite places to eat back in the day.

Either my memory has issues, or the food here has taken a turn for the worse. Some of the pizzas still bore a resemblance to what we remembered, but everything just seemed a little lackluster. Not bad, just not tasty. Only having one size for the pizza really confused us as well. We used to get one large and one app for the two of us. It seemed like the one size was closer to the smaller size pizzas from back in the day.

As for service, our server was actually very nice! I remembered him from the last time we were here, and I received the great service I expected. The problem is that I didn't really receive enthusiastic service. It's almost like he was going through the motions without actually enjoying himself. It was a little off-putting. I will say though, the service was still very good, just void of any emotion or human connection.

Lastly, and the reason for the three star review, is the 4% "living wage" surcharge added to our bill. I have no issue paying 4% more for their pizza, beer, or whatever I order there, but gall of calling it out on the bill is over the top. If you can't stay in business without paying your customers a living wage, then you don't deserve to stay in business. I wonder if there has been a change in management that prompted the waiter's lack of enthusiasm in our service.

The beer selection is fine and the pizzas are okay. I ain't gonna give them 1 star when they have decent, bordering on good, food. But the management's attitude...

I would give this lovely place 5 stars if I weren't so disappointed in their portion sizes. I have gone there hungry and left hungry, so I must knock off a star. If all the rest weren't so good, I wouldn't hesitate to slay 2 or 3 stars. But to be fair I must say that they are wonderful in every single way except for the fact that the pizzas are so thin and so low calorie. They are merely a glorified appetizer. Maybe they are adequate for a waif, but I need at least a thousand calories at dinner to even sustain myself. I work hard and burn lots of calories. I would not be able to afford to properly feed myself here because I'd need to buy 2-3 of their pizzas, plus a salad to do it! But that said, if you don't particularly have a high metabolism like I do, you just may love this place. It's not cheap, but not too expensive, either. Inside, it does get very loud with all the other diners' chatter when they are full. I just don't like that I leave feeling hungry, then have to make myself something more to eat when I get home. But looking toward the bright side, probably their best asset is that their servers are top-notch. They are definitely among the best. It has always been a great time going there. Just not quite as fun as I wish it could be, if I weren't for my strong,...

This has to be our favorite pizza place in Contra Costa. We've been to countless others, and none come close to the flavor of anything offered. To top it off, the current COVID service and outdoor dining experience is among the best. We ordered the Margherita Pizza and the Fennel Sausage, along with a couple drafts of Ghost Town IPA. Both pizza we're delicious, there's something about a wood-fired pizza that you simply can't go wrong with. Our server was nice enough to mention the Fennel Sausage doesn't come with red sauce but we could add it if we desired. We kept it the way they intended it and were SO glad we did, as it was phenomenal. Happy to recommend this establishment to anyone! Our one and only gripe was that the "20% living wage/health insurance service fee" (in lieu of tip) was taxed along with our food and drinks. I'm all for paying this to a restaurant to ensure everyone working there is taken care of, I just think it should have been added after the total bill. Not enough to lose a star though, as we'll be back here as often as life allows.

Years ago Pizza Antica fell off our dining-out rotation after we had two bad meals in a row here. There have been some changes since our last visit. A great change is the addition of the banquette and resulting wall between dining room and bar. Another change is the full bar. I'm not sure if that is good or bad. I've never wanted a cocktail in that environment. The not so great change is the shrinking menu. It feels like just handful of items now. Only one entree that isn't pasta. Only a few (5-6?) seasonal pizzas instead of the old 10-12 offerings. I thought of making my own but while all the seasonal pizzas have at least three items, my own 3 item pizza would have been more expensive than any pizza on the menu. The really good news is that my pizza, and the rest of our food, was delicious.

Very clean place and nice decor. We stayed inside since there was a lot of space for the baby. Staff was friendly, and hired students (which is great) that seemed to be trained well, although took awhile to get the check. Pizzas like always were amazing, with a good crust from their piping hot ovens. We had the fennel sausage pizza and white potato pizza which balanced well. I thought the Caesar salad was lacking considering it cost almost the same as the pizzas. Foccacia was tasty especially with the ksa beer. Really would give it a 4.5 stars but I'll round up. The setup and the cleanliness, and nice atmosphere really adds to the experience.
