I would give this restaurant negative stars if I could. I will say the few positives first: the female owner greeted us the second we walked in and we were seated right away. The hostess, who I spoke to several times, was very kind and helpful. Negatives: From the minute we were seated, it took over 10 min for anyone to come over and acknowledge us. The waitress finally took a drink order and brought those over. Before ordering, I checked with the female owner and asked if I could order Hibachi since we were not seated at a Hibachi table. (It said you couldn’t on the menu). She said yes. Then, I verified that with the waitress before ordering. When my food came out, it was not what I had ordered. The meat hardly looked cooked, and the presentation was a joke. I literally waited over 10 minutes again before I could get anyone’s attention to tell them something was wrong. I finally went to talk to the hostess who said she would get someone. When the waitress finally arrived, I explained what had happened. She told me that I had ordered that, and I had to pay for it and they wouldn’t substitute anything. She was very rude. I explained that I had asked for hibachi and I wouldn’t eat that or pay for it. I asked to see the manager. Another 10 min pass, and the manager comes out and tells me the same thing and is JUST as rude. In the end, my friend said he would take it home to his mom so I didn’t have to pay for it, but we left no tip. Hands down the WORST experience I have ever had in Lafayette! Peeling paint on the walls, chairs cracking.. the whole place needs a facelift. Time to sic Robert Irvine from Restaurant: Impossible on them. Do yourself a favor and go...
Read moreLet me start off by saying we love Shinto’s been going there for years. But last night was a nightmare. We were seated for hibachi and was told there were no hibachi menus available and that they would be given to us as soon as available. 30 minutes later our drink orders were taken, 30 minutes after that we were asked if we were ready to order but still had no menus. We finally order and waited another hour before any type of service. None of the table got our soup, none of the table got a salad, and after 2 hours we finally got refills on our drinks. Come time to leave, the bill issue was a nightmare until our party just decided to say screw it and pay for whatever was on it and Venmo each other the difference rather than fight with the server on it. We didn’t even want to tell her we didn’t receive our soups and salads for fear that it would take her another 20 minutes to figure out how to mess with the bill. After last night I don’t know if...
Read moreThe "host" at the door definitely does NOT define "hostess"! It was my son's birthday, last minute decision to go to Shinto since they closed at 10 versus 8p. 7 total guests. Restaurant empty. "How many?" "7". "You have to wait for the rest of your party." "Sure, where would you like us to sit/wait?!" Ok, on the bench that only sits four. Empty restaurant, 845ish, the 5 of us waiting at the door. "Ok you can sit now" "Why are we sitting now???? We still only have 5 people!!!! Oh yes, the hostess with the mostess sense 😱 May not have been so bad if she was actually nice, but she was not. Had it not been for my son's birthday and my niece and her husband driving up in five , we would have definitely left. Being in the service industry for 22 years, even though the food is great, as was the server, the first person who greets you has a major impact on your dining experience. Our party of 7 will dine...
