Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream Laguna Niguel — Restaurant in Laguna Niguel

I want to first say the ice cream is absolutely delicious, I've been here many times and the taste of each scoop is amazing. My 1 star review however has to do with the level of service. I have visited 4-5 times over the course of the year, and each time I have witnessed one of their employees speak in a dismissive, demeaning, and utterly rude way to customers. This last instance, on July 20th, was the worst I have seen.

An older woman was attempting to order ice cream and was having difficulty understanding how to order or how many scoops she was going to receive. Instead of empathy and help, she was served eye-rolls and disdain from the staff.

The language the staff was using was in an exhaustive manner, as if the customer was an inconvenience to them because they were having trouble ordering. If this was a one time occurrence I could attribute it to a "bad day" or maybe the heat caused the employee to become irritated. But I have seen this happen so many times at this one location, and the last episode was enough for me to write a review.

Selection: very good; some flavors have catchy names which leave you clueless about the actual flavor; since the selections are on monitors, the customers and staff will be much happier if you spell out what's in those cutsey named ones.

Quality: I'm a fan of mint chip so I ordered a scoop of that and a scoop of another flavor; when we got home I treated myself to a small bowl of Safeway/Vons Signature Select Mint Moose Tracks; the edge goes to Safeway - just as creamy, better mint flavor and bigger chocolate chunks, plus, a 1.5 qt container is cheaper than a medium cone.

Ambiance: None; no inside seating; very limited outside seating facing the parking lot where the cars park heading in to your table; a large SUV thing came and sat idling 2 feet from our table for most of the time we were eating;

Summary: go across the street, spend less at Ralph's and buy everyone a 1.5 qt of their favorite flavor and take it home and eat on your patio. We won't go back and...

Handel's has become a household favorite in our family! It is hands down the best ice cream shop around. The ice cream here is incredibly creamy, flavorful, and always fresh. Handel's has a unique blend of flavors that are subtle and not overly sweet or overpowering.

During my recent visit, I tried the taro flavor, which is a purple root. It was creamy, sweet, and absolutely delicious. The coffee chocolate chip is always a favorite of mine, but I'm always tempted to try new flavors because they never disappoint.

During the winter months, there's always a line out the door. It just goes to show how popular and beloved this place is in the community. The service is friendly and the staff are happy to help with recommendations.
