India Grill — Restaurant in Laguna Niguel

I have been to just about every single Indian restaurant in Orange County (Everest, Green Chili, Yellow Chili, Orange Curry, Taste of India, Masala Craft, Masala Waves, Ashoka, etc…). I’m not necessarily a Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, Mango Lassi type of person. I tend to judge a place by its Dal and Roti with no butter, but I have to admit I have yet to try it from this place though not for a bad reason.

I live about 30 minutes away from this restaurant now unfortunately, but I was working in the area over the past year and a half. I became addicted to their lunch special Chicken Tikka Masala. It was served on a nice stainless steel pan with jeera rice and garlic naan for just under $20. I got so addicted to it that I would time my lunch break to be able to go right when they opened at 11:30. I order “hot” as I have a very high spice tolerance and I think there’s definitely some room left to go higher if you’re someone who likes a maximum amount of heat. I’d make a point to say “extra hot/spicy” personally.

I’ll admit I cannot speak on the other dishes as I haven’t tried them. I am willing to bet though that there is not a single Tikka Masala in the United States that would compete with theirs. This would be my death row meal and maybe one day I can break the curse and finally try their Dal, Korma, or anything else as I’m sure I’d be impressed. We had WORST experience with this restaurant in terms of service today. I wouldn't have cared posting this but this is the THIRD worst experience. Prior to this we still use to come back as the food was good.

Suddenly today they stopped allowing 2 people to eat the Thali (mind you this is limited thali, not buffet where it's limitless & sharing the food). Before today, they never cared if we shared the Thali or not. If someone pays the bill then they SHOULD NOT CARE if one person eats it or two person eat it. Not every person has the same appetite. They even suggested to take the Thali home & then share but we cannot dine in at the restaurant. This time they embarrassed us in front of family (who just came from India) whom we took to this restaurant being very hungry after spending a very lovely time outdoors the whole day. These guy's ruined our happy time. Last time, they suddenly had changed the timings, business hours were not even updated on Google and did not allow us to dine in just because we were 3min late. It was the occasion of birthday celebration for our dear one. Prior to that, we were here with very important German clients & in between our meal they started staring us & telling us that they are were closing the restaurant. So we should take the remaining for to go coz they wantwd to close.
