High Tide Coffee Laguna Niguel — Restaurant in Laguna Niguel

The first time I went into High Tide Coffee, I ordered a small latte with an extra shot of espresso and was charged $6.25 (!!!). I went back two weeks later for a plain coffee to drink there. The girl behind the counter put the milk in herself ( no milk containers by the condiments ) and placed the cup of coffee on the counter in a way that the contents spilled and left a mess. I took a sip of the coffee and, besides it being lukewarm and too milky, I could tell the coffee was old. I didn't want to be a pain and asked if they could warm it up. A rather large woman sitting at the counter, who I discovered was the assistant manager, asked if I wanted a new cup but that would mean that I would get the same old coffee from the container that I had the coffee in my hand from. I didn't want to seem like a "Karen" and tell her that they should make fresh brewed coffee at least every few hours and instead I politely asked her if she would microwave the coffee that I had. Her attitude was one of a person who obviously thought she was destined for a more exalted occupation than the one she presently had and proceeded to take my coffee in a snit to go microwave it. I waited while looking at the dessert case which contained some very small and overpriced "vegan" pastries and left shortly after. Rest assured that from now on, I will instead go down the street to Peet's where the coffee is consistently good, where the desserts are large, varied and reasonably priced, and the counter help is invariably polite and friendly without the snotty attitude I experienced at High Tide Coffee. Decided to give this place a second try after last time ordering food and there was mold all over the fruit. I came here again because I like the atmosphere, but after today won’t be returning due to food quality and service from the cook. I ordered two drinks and two breakfast toasts and tipped well, the total being 50$ just for a breakfast for two only to be disappointed again. Only one of my orders came out, and after kindly asking the lady where my second toast was she was rude and said she’d make it and I waited another ten minutes watching everyone else who ordered after me get their food instead of me. It took almost 40 minutes to get two pieces of toast and she was completely rude about it, worst customer service experience I’ve had in a while. On top of that, my “spicy lox” toast was not even toasted, barely any avocado, and poor quality fish. This is my absolute FAVORITE coffee shop. All the baristas are awesome! So friendly and kind. The music is always on point. Their drink choices are delicious with monthly flavors make it exciting every time I come in. They sell art and goodies from local artists which is amazing. They also have a cork-board of drinks people have pre-purchased that you can cash in when in need which is truly amazing way to give back to the community. I wish they had a community wall for local events. They have removed many of their vegan food and pastry options over the last year so that’s why I rated food a 4. I come to this coffee shop once a week and absolutely love the vibes all around. It’s a great place for a date or to sit and work.
