To make extra money to pay for a home remodeling I have been doing Doordash. Until today I have never once had a problem walking. Going to the cashier and retrieving Tony's customer's order fir delivery. The way Tony's has it set up you go to the cashier and retrieve the order there. Today I go in and ask for the order, which by the way was just sitting on the counter. IT WASN'T UNDER A HEAT LAMP OR IN A THERMAL BAG! I asked for the order and the young man at the counter who by the way was courteous and professional handed .e the order off the counter. I was standing next yo another customer that was at the register and had place my thermal bag on the counter. There was plenty of room for both myself and the customer. As I began to place the order in the bag a big guy behind the counter very rudely and abruptly says "you can't do that right her. You need to do it over there pointing to the bench in the lobby. I would have had no problem whatsoever ever taking the order over there. But the guy was extremely rude in his demands talking to me like I was skum of the earth. When I voiced my complaint about his rudeness he arrogantly laughed. At that point I was enraged so I told him what an a$$hole he was and left with the order. I promptly called in o speak with the owner or general manager. A young lady answered the phone. (A employee) She stated were you the man that was just here picking up the Doordash. I said yes and she hung up the phone. I called back three times and was hung up on three times before I got to a young man claiming to be the owner. He defended his employees behavior simply stating this is our policy. I was trying to explain policy or not his employee could have remained professional and courteous. As I was stating this he hung up. I called back again asking to speak with the owner in which a lady now got in the phone claiming to be the owner. Same thing happened as with the previous guy. And then she hung up. I do want to also state that the twenty or so previous times I have been in as a Doordasher taking care of our mutual customers I have picked the order up at the counter every single time and bagged it in my thermal bag at the counter every single time until today. This is the first time I have ever been told to take it to the bench, which I do not have the slightest problem with. (Although i would stare tgat if this is the so called policy why is it that policy has never been mentioned before?)I had a problem with the rude arrogant behavior. She just hung up, I called back many times because I wanted to voice my complaint. They arrogantly hung up every single time until finally another person answered claiming to be the owner. It was Sterling who is an owner. He immediately began defending his policy without even giving me a chance to speak. I finally said "are you going to give me a chance to speak. Which to his credit he did. After I spoke my complaint about the treatment he again defended his policy (which was not the issue at all) and then excuses the big guys unprofessional behavior by stating it is busy. He offered an apology while defending his behavior. And offered the apology while again defending a policy that was not the issue AT ALL. He then stated that they love their customers which framed inthe defense of all his employees rude and unprofessional behavior and hurrying to get off the phone meant it wasn't sincere at all. It never once occurred to him to say under no circumstances should my employees have acted this way and they should have listened to your complaint like...
Read moreIf I could give this "pizza" place zero stars I would. We recently moved to Lake Charles and saw this place and thought we'd give it a try. We get to the counter to order and the guy is definitely not a people person, no customer service skills whatsoever. It was our first time there so of course I didn't know we pay after. When I asked him if I pay him he was not very nice and he was like "are you kidding me nots not my job." We got the salad that came with the sausage link spaghetti we ordered and the salads are tiny and in a very small bowl it's hard to cut and mix in the miniature bowl. And the "sausage link" isn't even a sausage link its meat sauce. That's the reason we ordered that plate thinking it comes with a sausage link. The spaghetti noodles are hard and dry like they have been sitting there all day or even over night. The bread that came with the spaghetti was sesame bread buns and it had no flavor and was cold. Then we get our pizza and it didn't come with all the ingredients as is says in the menu. It was taken back and fixed. I was expecting something good, the bread was soggy and definitely seemed and tasted like a frozen pizza. Also the mushrooms were from a can and not fresh. By the looks at the bottom of the pizza I'm actually sure it's frozen pizza they serve there. You are better off get one of those dollar frozen pizzas at the grocery store. Plus save your money and get pizza from a chain pizza place or even from your grocery store trust me when I say they will taste much better. The ONLY thing I liked about our visit was the older lady that was our waitress. Went to the restaurant on...
Read moreMy memories of good times at Tony's Pizza go back to the early 70s and through the years when the dining room was expanded, the new shiny tables were added, and various menu additions like the medium sized Chicago-style pizza crust, the iconic po-boy bbq sauce being out-sourced along with appetizer and dessert items being added and the imported candies on the front counter.
The Italian Sausage Po-Boy is memorable for its amazing flavor and ability of the lovely aroma of spices that you could savor at home the next morning when you awoke.
The ground beef pizza with the jalapeno topping that were also ground was revolutionary and incredibly smart and it's remarkable that I haven't seen ground jalapenos replicated by a pizza restaurant in the fifty years since.
I now live near Austin, TX and we have a number of pizza restaurants representing a variety of pizza types from Brooklyn, Neapolitan, Detroit, Connecticut, California, that are baked in a traditional pizza oven, wood-fired, coal-fired, etc. and many that are nationally ranked and reviewed and I love most all of them, but there's something iconic and exemplary about Tony's Pizza in Lake Charles with the toppings, sauce, and their pizza crust that I love today as I have the last fifty years. It's Lake...
