Quiet, too quiet--due to its being primarily only populated by the residents of 'The Pink Building', ie, the last vestige of the Hollywood Beach Hotel complex, with the highly exclusive Copa-Cobana type, private beach, dinner club, famous Big Band jazz dance music bands now ghosts, since foolishly, the pink hotel was torn down in the 1950s.
Go here to relish the owner-operated pride specials of the day, (ummm...) as well as to partake of the menu-scrumptious regular & utterly delicious soups, appetizers, full dinners, and handmade delightful deserts.
EVERYTHING you eat here is a mouth-watering memory that will draw you back again and again.
Perhaps next time we go, the surrounds will be louder, because YOU too discovered this wonderful eatery and are conversing and laughing along as we take one of our favorite tables and chat with our Vietnamese host owner- operator all about his hand-picked Specials. Ummm! Go here.
The history of this property and of The Edgewater Beach Hotel are charmingly documented in photos, with explanatory text, all along the curving walls as you make your way from the Pink Building's chic-chic lobby (it's a cooperatively owned exclusive apartment building) into the restaurant. Don't forget to use the Ladies Room before you leave, quite sate. 6...
Read moreThis is a hidden gem! First it is nestled in the iconic pink Edgewater Beach Apartments. Think of the resort in "Some Like It Hot" - beautiful chandeliers and marble lobbies-20's elegance. The cafe has an incredible wine list with amazing choices reasonably priced. Classic French steak and seafood dishes. Family owned-the tiny proprietor tells you the specials and pours the wine. We started with delicious escargot in a garlic butter wine sauce. Fresh crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce. The filet was melt in your mouth delicious and was dripping in decadent herb laden butter. The tournedos were floating in a silky, peppercorn wine sauce. We emptied two bottles of delightful shiraz and completely enjoyed the live piano music. It is intimate, white table cloths and old Chicago elegance. We will be returning soon. It was fabulous!! Does the place not want the business? Maybe so many people like their food that some of them just dont care how they treat people. I and my girlfriend had a great time there in the past but this is the first time in decades of ordering food someone has yelled at me and had such a terrible attitude. The customer is definitely not always right but you cant treat people like you're doing them a favor and that their questions don't matter. Even if you have a bad day you can be kind. Fyi I called...
