After being denied due to a crazy long line for Paper Machete my friends and I decided to warm away our blues with some pho. We knew we could just go up the block to Argyle Ave but that also seemed to be pretty busy for a Saturday afternoon so we did a quick search and came across Little Vietnam just a little further north and drove that way.
It’s a great spot with a wide variety of Vietnamese dishes at reasonable prices. The combination pho I ordered had a nice broth with a decent amount of sliced meat and noodles. The shrimp spring rolls I ordered as an appetizer were also really good and I liked that all of the vegetables in the rolls and as toppings for the pho tasted crispy and fresh.
My friend ordered a pork banh mi along with his soup that looked really good and it was big enough that he was able to take half of it home for later.
The staff were very friendly. They did say that they could only take cash or Zelle payments at the time due to their card reader not working but that was not a problem for us. The inside has a very relaxed feel. Our waiter offered us a free fried banana dessert which was very appreciated. Next time I’d probably order some coffee...
Read moreWe got scammed by the waitress to tip double at this restaurant. We had 2 pho bowls, a drink, and an appetizer that totaled $47. The waitress brought our bill totaling $58. I thought it was higher than expected but trusted that she did the math correctly, and she seemed nice. My card got charged, and the system asked if I wanted to leave a tip. I put a 20% tip and my total bill came to $70. It was then which I realized something was not right. The waitress built in a 20% tip for herself which I did not authorize ($58 vs $47), and I unknowingly tipped on the $58 which brought the bill to a whopping $70.
I felt taken advantage of as a customer and will not be coming back again. It’s a disappointing experience and I lost my trust in them. I trusted that I would be charged correctly, which was why I did not double check the math, and unfortunately I got tricked into paying 2 tips, 1 of them which I did not authorize. In the future I will absolutely be checking the math myself.
If you choose to eat here please be aware of this tip scam and do the...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went to dinner at Little Vietnam on a Groupon voucher. So we got the most expensive appetizer-- a vegetable-filled crepe ($9), two salads (all were $8) two entrees (beef with asparagus and catfish in a clay pot) and dessert. The appetizer was the best part of the meal. The salads were fine, though they didn't seem worth $8 to me. There were two desserts on the menu, but neither was available, so we got tapioca, which was OK.
Now about the entrees.
Mine (catfish) was so salty that I couldn't eat it. I took it home and even with the addition of many vegetables, it was only marginally edible. And I actually like a good bit of salt on my food! My boyfriend's beef was bland, and almost as salty.
I mention the prices because the Groupon ad said the value was up to $63 and there was NO WAY that was true. But that really wasn't the issue. I'd like to think the salt problem was an abberation, but I would never take the chance, since the rest of the meal wasn't really anything special, even at a somewhat...
