Best rice! Can't say so much for the chips salsa which is an absolute shame. Chips are so thick & hard you might "chip" a tooth. One salsa looks like ketchup & the other looks like a product of grade school cooking class & is pretty bland. Spicy but bland. Beans taste like they add pork on them, which I don't eat any pork. Tacos we're good but the food gave me the runs the next morning. Which I'm not sure if was from the rest of the food I actually enjoyed or from the beans with pork in it. Even if I wanted to like porky body doesn't. And one bite would affect me. Service was meh. And I'm sure because I'm a lone diner has something to do with it. (In their minds equals not much of a tip. I work for tips myself so am generous where it's due. So guess again ladies.) Also the typical woman to woman catty bs. Ladies, it costs nothing to lift one another instead of competing with one another. So all in all as much as I'd love to give it 5 stars since I did really love the rice & & tacos were good but between the service & chips & salsa I have to go with 3. Oh and the cake! Looks Devine! I bought one & forgot it at a stop I made sadly. I'm sure it was fantastic though. They have a nice case of a different variety of cakes. I might go BK & try that.

If i was rating this 2 years ago I would say 5 stars but over time this place is just going down the drain literally nothing taste the same coming from someone who grew up eating here/ parents grew up eating here this was my go to place.I wanted to eat here once a week if that never loved a restaurant so much but the quality of the food just is not the same the portions of food is not the same I never had an issue paying extra for something I know it’s delicious and eating here now just feels like a waste of money I wish the taste and quality and portions could be the same I hate how I always crave this and it’s never what it used to be .. with that being said the morning waitress is so unprofessional literally doesn’t come to the table to ask if anything is needed has an attitude of being called just overall rude .. so disappointing .. just look at the amount of rice my husband got with his burritos

As a lifelong Chicagoan and native to the neighborhood, El Presidente on the corner of Ashland and Wrightwood holds a special place in my heart. It’s more than just a restaurant—it’s a cherished part of my family’s story. Growing up, we celebrated countless birthdays, family milestones, and casual get-togethers here, whether inside the dining room or out on the patio.

What makes El Presidente stand out is not just the incredible food (which has never changed over the years—thankfully!), but the people who make it feel like home. Martha, who has been here for over 30 years, is the heart of this place. Her warm smile and genuine welcome always make you feel like family the moment you walk through the door. Thank you, Martha!

Every dish brings back memories, but my all-time favorite is the taco plate with rice and beans. Simple, satisfying, and full of authentic flavor. You can truly taste the love and tradition in every bite.

El Presidente is a must-try if you’re craving real-deal Mexican food with soul. It's not just a meal—an experience, a tradition, and a place that continues to unite people. Here's to the memories we've made and the many more to come. ¡Gracias,...

I used to go there all the time until I had a couple of bad expierences with staff and the owner one time I ordered soup and called cause the meat was missing I called to complain and the waitress said it would be OK to come back and get another one when I went back the owner said no that she’s the one who made the soup and she knew that she put one bone in there with meat I Assured her I would not call if there wasn’t no meat in there but she still said no their service is ridiculous. I went today for dine in I ordered a taco and so did my son I asked if they were gonna bring the chips and salsa which they usually do for people who dine in and the waitress said for two tacos that I ordered probally not!!!!! Shocked again I totally remember why I hate going there!!! She said she would have to ask the owner. It doesn’t matter if I ordered one taco and dined in it’s something you should never say . Customer service is key get...
