Mixed feelings about this place. I find myself craving greek pork gyro here and there and I think about ordering from here once every 3 months or so. And I would, except their prices are ridiculous. I understand this isn't Greece where a gyro pita can be 2 euro but charging 12 dollars for one is insane -- even if it was amazing it would still be insane. This has us ordering from there once a year if even, instead of as often as we THINK about ordering from there. Just because other places have better value.
As far as the taste goes, it's okay. We have tried many things from there and nothing is really BAD but it's not world changing either. Their greek sausage can definitely be made better at home which a bit disappointing because it tells you they don't try with seasonings or anything at all.Their pork gyro is fine and pork kebob as well. Chicken gyro isn't as flavorful. Their pitas are not warm at all either originally or by the time they get delivered and they taste like they just removed it from the bag it comes in at the grocery store and wrapped your food with it. (A bit dry) If someone's going to charge 12 dollars for that($2 for just one pita!!!!) I would expect it to be toasted on the grill or something and have a bit of oregano and a bit of oil on it or something...
The salad some of their dishes come with is okay. Just mixed greens thrown together with a mild dressing but tomatos sliced like they are about to go on a burger which is a bit awkward for a greek salad and can't really eat if you don't have a knife.
I don't recommend the skordalia (garlic potato side dish). It's not made like the traditional skordalia that you are at greek restaurants. I think the kind of potato might be different and texture and flavor are definitely different.
As far as the atmosphere low star rating -- the inside is always empty when I go and it's not the most Inviting restaurant although the lady that seems to own it is welcoming so I definitely wouldn't go If you are catching up with friends or want a sit down restaurant. I usually order delivery.
This is an okay place if you are craving certain things you can't find at other restaurants but not my first choice if I had...
Read moreThis review is largely based off their customer service.
I placed a pickup order for their weekend lamb chops special with greek fries. I arrived to an empty restaurant that had one table which had just finished eating. There was a single waiter on staff as well as an older man and woman in the open kitchen. Following the sign's instructions I walked to the counter to pick-up my order.
The older woman and man were in the kitchen preparing a single dish together. Not one of them had a mask on despite the recent rise of Omicron in Chicago, or the city ordinance in place regarding masks. I stood at the counter for a full three minutes, in plain view of both of them, no more than 3 feet away, and not one of them acknowledged my presence. Initially I thought they were waiting to finish their meal prep, however after the woman was done assisting the man she began slicing tomatoes.
I finally got tired of being blatantly ignored and approached the waiter on the floor, who was aimlessly adjusting empty tables, and requested my order. The woman in the kitchen only looked up after the waiter entered the kitchen to grab my food, and she appeared very intentional about not looking my direction. There was no acknowledgement, no apology, no recognition that I had been standing in view of all of them and had not been offered assistance.
Do they generally have poor customer service? Maybe. But I was told by a white man that this place was amazing and the female owner was incredibly friendly; I walked in as a black woman and had the complete opposite experience. Is this a race issue? Maybe... maybe not. But whatever the issue, my money is the same shade of green as everybody else's and their lamb chops weren't good enough to subject myself to feeling invisible at this establishment ever again...
Read moreWorth every penny, I’ll definitely keep coming in for more. The Restaurant is clean, they really take care of this place. Food was delicious and tasty, been here a few times and it’s very consistent. Straight forward, no frills, Greek food. This last time we had: Taramasalata, yum! Fish roe and pita! They mKe it here its not some spread out of a can. Tzatziki was so good you order it as an appetaker, and I like to eat it with the fries, sounds weird but what so weird about sour cream and potatoes, right. Horiatiki Salad, I think these were the best tomatoes I’ve ever had in the middle of January. The guy said Vicky, the owner and captain in the kitchen, picks them out by hand at the market. Pork Kalamaki, simple and tasty you can’t go wrong. Kabob Sandwich was a couple of pieces of ground seasoned meat in a pita, it might be my favorite. I’ve been there a few times now, the staff is unique and very friendly. The guy waiting tables is an absolute pro, and always takes care of us,. I don’t know where they got him from, but the dining room is spot on.
Some “Little” restaurants down the road could come in here for a few lessons, lighting is just right, there’s no dark candle lit room hiding things owners don’t want you to see. The walls are clean and floors shiny. Bathrooms here have sinks inside the room, not outside the bathroom door like a dive bar from the 70’s. The menu is accurate, you get what it describes.
If you want simple Greek food done right and in a clean fun atmosphere don’t miss this place it’s...
