I am very disappointed in this location. The interior design is great. Food presentation was nice. But unfortunately service is subpar. As we sat I decided ask for help while deciding a meal, which of course is normal if a person has never been to a location. I’m not sure if the waiter was new or if the language was difficult but the waiter gave very broad answers about items on the menu. As I was not satisfied with his description I decided to go with the chefs choice. After all the chef knows best when it comes to appealing to the tongue. At least you would expect. When the meal got to me instead of explaining what I had in front of me the waiter basically dropped the plate and walked off. I was curious as to what was sitting in front of me so I called him back and asked what the dish was. His response was a shrug of the shoulder a point of the finger and a simple “it’s a platter” I then looked back down at the meal which seemed to be a salad topped with a couple of eggs and avocado and replied, “platter.” As I ate it was exactly what I was looking at. A salad topped with eggs with a few potatoes hidden at the bottom. The meal was like the service, subpar. Not saying much and intending to leave my usual 30% tip I asked for the bill. Now this is where the issue grew. They charged me for every single leafy item they placed in the plate including anything extra they could find. This was frustrating of course. To think. Here I am coming to a place that is right down the road from my apartment that could’ve been my new weekly routine and here they are finding a way to rip my wallet to shreds. Now I could be over reacting but I’m pretty sure no one would expect a salad when asking for a chefs recommendation and spending 15.50 for something that wasn’t full of flavor or filling.

I'll start by saying I have never had a restaurant experience so unpleasant that it caused me to openly criticize them on a forum for all to see. A little over 20 minutes after ordering our waitress comes over to tell us that our food is going to take a little more time (she gave a ballpark of about 20 more minutes), and asked us if we would like any appetizers while we waited. We decided to split a bagel with cream cheese which came out about 15 minutes later. 30 minutes after that we finally got our food. I received my chicken and waffles (chicken was very dry & terribly bland, waffles were pretty cold & utterly flavorless, and they forgot the egg I ordered), my friend got her fried egg sandwich (lackluster at best). I should mention that during our over-hour long wait, the seats to the right and left of us filled up, ordered, received their food, and ate their food all before we received our entrees. Waitress told us our order would be specially discounted but that turned out to just be a -$4.50 neighborhood discount. I was able to talk them down but they would only go as low as 6 dollars off. TL;DR if you are looking for Sunday brunch in chicago, go to Bongo Room or literally any dumpster to get more flavorful food and more expedient service.

This was one of those places you seriously consider just walking out and not paying. To start off, the waitress was lovely so don't take that into consideration. It's the kitchen that's the problem. The barista on the espresso machine didn't know what he was doing, the espresso shots in my latte were so so so sour and every time he steamed milk it SCREAMED loudly throughout the entire restaurant. I had to send my latte back and I didn't bother trying anything else because my friends iced coffee was also terribly bitter and acidic. Then our food arrived. We ordered some kind of special fried bread/donut thing (pic included) which were cold and tasted like bland pieces of bread with honey & powdered sugar on top. I was left questioning how anyone could actually buy into the thought that it's something special...still baffled when I think about it. I also ordered avocado toast with fried eggs. The fried eggs were ice cold and at this point I was more than annoyed. I didn't even bother eating the egg and we just left as quickly as possible. Don't waste your money here, there are tons of better breakfast joints in Chicago.

Came here for breakfast this morning with my husband - everyone is human and I think a place can have an off day, so I rarely give a negative review based on 1 visit, but EVERYTHING about my experience here was TERRIBLE.

  1. Coffee served - no sugar on our table and no spoon to stir. Impossible to flag someone down to ask for these items. I can get over that....

  2. Waited for 55 mins from time we ordered for meal to come out...that's a long time for breakfast food!

  3. No offers to refill our coffee or water at any point during our visit (before or after the food came out) - not once!

  4. Our meals: My benedict was the soggiest English Muffin ever with runny hollandaise sauce - so gross - like it'd been sitting soaked waiting to be brought out for quite a while. My husband ordered the simple 3 eggs with sausage - arrived with bacon instead of sausage. We flagged a waiter (not ours) down to ask for sausage. She asked if we'd like to keep the bacon, husband said no and then she asked if he would please just keep the bacon 3 more times - so awkward! Sure, not a big deal to keep it, but he didn't want to see it and be tempted to overeat - she asked, he said no, that should've been end of story! So, he kept the bacon....and finished most of his meal before the sausage came out (at least it did eventually come out).

  5. We also ordered a berry waffle - it never arrived!

  6. Check arrived and not only did it include the waffle, but it also overcharged us for an extra coffee we didn't order or have (double coffee charge - maybe an oversight and not a big deal in and of itself, but with everything else it was irritating).

I'm frustrated - but then, the icing on the cake which led me to write this review occurred....

  1. The couple at the table to our left arrived about 10 min's after us....their food came out same time as ours and we overhead our server tell them he was sorry and offer to comp their entire meal for them!?! Are you kidding me!?

  2. As if that wasn't bad enough, because he surely didn't offer to comp our meal, once he came back to take our payment, we noted that we actually had never gotten the waffle - he asked if we still wanted it and we said yes, actually, we had our mind set on it and despite the bad experience this far, we still really wanted the waffle. He asked if we were sure and we said yes again! He went in back, returned to our table, and then told us sorry but there are several orders ahead of us now so it's going to considerable wait for the waffle - I politely asked if he could put the order ahead of the others because it was clearly his mistake? He said no, and asked if still wanted it. We gave up and said nope, forget the waffle - he took the check away and he did remove the waffle charge, but I thought surely he'd give us some sort of discount for the mistake he made. Nothing. Not even a simple apology which would've gone a long way because we are pretty reasonable people.

We will not be back again, sadly. I had been excited to try this place, but unwilling to give it a second chance after today. Don't let the 'USA Today Named us Best Breakfast' marketing fool you. Enjoy...

I’m rewriting my review because the food here is amazing, but the service is so horrible. It would not be fair to the kitchen or bar staff to write a completely negative review because both food and drinks were great. One family with a small baby walked out because of the service. We had to go to the bar to have coffee refilled. The place was packed and servers were just standing in the back doing nothing. Our server was awful. Barely came to our table. We sat waiting for our food for an hour with no coffee refills whatsoever. Meanwhile the hostess sat and ignored customers on her phone the entire time. Even after the one family walked out, no sense of concern for other customers, went right back to texting or whatever she was doing. So unprofessional and insulting as my family and I were sitting with no service and no food. The food was fantastic when it arrived, but the service was so blatantly awful. Even once it died down my husband had to go up to the bar because we couldn’t get she attention of our waitress to get a check because she was too busy casually chatting with the bartender. I’m extremely understanding of restaurant staff having worked in the industry myself, but this was ridiculous. As much as I love the food, they need to replace whoever was hosting and serving the front today....
