I was really excited when I saw this restaurant was finally going to open up. I have lived in Rogers Park 12 years now and this restaurant has been empty most of that time. Since it's super hard to find good BBQ in Chicago I was also excited to have a restaurant nearby that serves it.
I came twice here for the Thursday night special. The first time it was fairly thick hamburger and I was quite pleased with my order. One week later my boyfriend and I returned for the Thursday night special and the quality of food had decreased dramatically. Last Friday, we came to finally have their BBQ. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was just ok. Unfortunately, it came with large chunks of fat which I have never seen in pulled pork before. My boyfriend ordered the burnt ends which were not burnt ends at all. What he received was essentially cubes of pork belly which were mostly fat and had very little meat on them. When my boyfriend tried to share some of his concerns about the quality of the food, the manager began to loudly argue with him and the manger said "we don't need your type of people here". Since we are a gay couple and he didn't give more context on what he meant by "your type of people" I'm left to assume that he is homophobic and does not want LGBTQ+ clients. The table next to us also let us know that they were very dissatisfied with their meal as well. We are disappointed that this new restaurant turned out so badly and I hope something better...
Read moreThis was the weirdest experience. We were the first people in the place for lunch. I think maybe they had the bartender acting as a server bc while he was very nice the service was strange. He told us about a brunch menu but said it wasn't on the website and didn't have paper menus so we could just use our imaginations... We ordered an app and he never brought plates or silverware. He came back to the table to ask what I ordered even though he wrote something down the first time. I had to ask for silverware after the food started coming. The other two people received food that didnt look like what they ordered. He comes back later with an empty tray and tells me my burnt ends are on someone else's plate. But that meant person two's ribs were missing, they were added to the third person's plate. So were basically passing meat around the table and we still didnt get what we ordered and bc my meat was on someone else's plate the server didnt think to give me the rest of the sides like coleslaw and pickles that come with it? So I paid $18 for subpar burnt ends on a peice of toast. The fried pickles were very good. Both types of ribs were too tough to bite through which should not be the case with a rack of ribs. We left a bunch of food because it wasn't edible. Total waste of $100. Would only order the pickles again. Hope they...
Read moreI had the opportunity to perform at Pork Chop in Edgewater last week and decided to arrive early for dinner before my performance. Unfortunately, the dining experience left much to be desired. The dishes, particularly the shrimp basket and the pulled pork sandwich my partner ordered, were lacking in flavor and preparation.
In addition to the culinary issues, I encountered some concerns with the bar service. While I typically don't fuss over the precision of a pint pour, the $9 price tag did make it a bit bothersome.
The service, too, was less than ideal. We felt somewhat pressured to close our open tab, with my partner being encouraged multiple times to settle and start a new tab whenever we ordered another round of drinks. During my third round of drinks, there was an awkward exchange between the bartender and the server, suggesting a desire to close the current tab before ordering the next round.
It's possible that the establishment has had past issues with dine-and-dash situations, but such practices can inadvertently perpetuate stereotypes and create discomfort for patrons.
In summary, my experience at Pork Chop was uncomfortable, in terms of dining. I was hesitant to share this feedback, as I genuinely want to support...
