Last night, February 13 I dined here with my wife for an early V-Day meal. Right off, fantastic dining experience.
Ambiance is dark and moody, with the bold white flower pattern on the wall, large and dim light fixtures, cushy and comfortable booths, large dark wood tables. The bar area is to the left, the general seating to the right. Candle-lit tables also set an intimate atmosphere. The acoustic jazz remixes are also a nice touch to keep the vibe positive without being frenetic.
The front of the house greeted us warmly and gave us a great booth, and the wait staff were ultra-diligent and explained all of the specials with knowledge and depth. He sold us on a special of 6-hour slow cooked lamb shank risotto with a tomato reduction sauce from the lamb. For appetizers we tried the fried calamari and the artichokes. We also tried the mushroom risotto and split a tiramisu for dessert.
-The focaccia bread and olive oil-cannellini bean dip was a nice change from the usual Italian loaves. Soft, fluffy, and flavorful without being heavy or filling, it helped us prep for the meal.
-The calamari was an instant favorite, the batter was ultra-light, crispy, and the calamari had a great texture. Both sauces complimented the calamari without overpowering the natural flavor.
-The artichoke appetizer was plated and served to us tableside by the server, and had an excellent lemon sauce. We soaked up the artichoke sauce with the focaccia bread.
-The mushroom risotto was wonderful, the earthy mushroom flavors were front and center, playing with the umami of the cream and the balanced texture of the risotto. Chewy with satisfying firmness, but not crunchy or mushy either. Great dish and portion size.
-Same goes for the lamb risotto, which was plain but had a solid cheese flavor on its own. The lamb reduction sauce paired very well. The lamb shank itself was melt in your mouth tender, fatty, and plentiful. There were definitely leftovers and a great value dish. When boxing it to go, I asked for an extra scoop of the delicious sauce to take home.
-Tiramisu was solid to end the feast, good sized portion and tasty without being too sweet.
-The manager also gave us complimentary coffeecello to close off the night, sweet and decadent.
I am definitely coming back, hopefully before this place because too popular and I can't get a seat. I want to try the other items on the menu, looking at what other diners ordered, it looked awesome. I'm definitely aiming for the pastas on...
Read moreJust delightful! Recently, I have visited many semi-fine dining Italian restaurants to find my date night place. And this was a wonderful surprise.
When you sit, they start you with a delicious focaccia bread and a Canellini bean puré that is truly yummy! I know this is very particular of me, but I like all the restaurants I go to to offer some bread or some thing to nibble on upon seating. I’m usually hungry and it’s a nice touch to offer this as a complimentary item. In fact, for my date night, I rule out places that don’t do something like this.
I have had the Cacio E Pepe several times and it is just incredible! My husband has had the lobster ravioli, the gnocchi, and the pesto. All delicious! Right now I am eating a spicy vodka sauce with fettuccine and it is pure heaven!**
So far, every dish we have had has been delightful and fair priced. It’s about the same price as most of the local Italian restaurants. The cocktails are delicious and about four dollars more affordable than the other local restaurants. The atmosphere is elegant, dim, romantic, but not overstated. It is not very loud and allows for nice conversation. No criticism of the service (I edited a small critique I had made before) . It’s an elegant vibe with a casual tone. And the playlist is fire (as my son would say); new wave hits from the 80s.
All in all, give it a shot! I think you will be very happy you did.
**Addendum: we STILL love the food. That said, we have been going now weekly for months.. almost a year. The “Specials” have basically been the same for the whole year. Many tasty items on that specials menu but it is a little anticlimactic to ask about the specials and be told the same thing week after week. Some items should obviously just be added to the regular menu (e.g. crab cakes, lobster ravioli) and they should encourage the chef to have more fun with seasonal foods! And they should change the mushroom soup base to a veggie base (why make a vegetable soup with an animal base?).
Again, we love the food! We will delete this part of the comment if they start...
Read moreI’m so happy this gem is in my neighborhood. It’s about time we had spectacular Italian restaurant in Edgewater. This gem within walking distance from my home (yay for me) and located right off of the Thorndale L stop. There is is plenty of pay to park meters for you drivers located on Broadway. This restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye when you walk through the door. The booths are super blush here. It’s great for a date night, birthday, anniversary, or girls night out. They have an extensive wine list. I love a good crafted cocktail so I tried the jalapeño margarita and it was delicious. My fiancé came here for a date night. We had the house salad, this is a house salad to rave about!! We had the shrimp garbonzola which was an explosion of flavor. I had the rigatoni rustica, I closed my eyes and was instantly transported to Italy. My fiancé had the salmon which he enjoyed. What’s life without dessert? We shared the crème brûlée which was baked to perfection. The owner is absolutely AMAZING. He makes sure to greet customers while they dine (it’s the little things). When you come to this establishment you will be taken care of like family. My waitress was top tier and very knowledgeable about the menu and specials. The owner surprised us with complimentary italian degestif cocktail which was so unexpected and much appreciated. You don’t have to leave your neighborhood for delicious Italian food. This is a MUST VISIT neighborhood gem! #Italian #Edgewater #Supportlocal...
