Upon arrival I was quickly thrown back in time for a second of the days of pizza places as I remember them. A countertop that you stood and leaned against, but you also ate from. This head taken me back the '70s where most pizza places were just that, a pizza place. The massive Pizza oven the kitchen up front. The personalized service you get anytime you see Carlos and Norma chatting away with me if time allows. This know-it-all critic had a slice of pizza and since all they had was cheese. You could add more cheese and put on anything but raw sausage that has to go through the whole cooking process so I opted for my next best or favorite green pepper. Did he load it up? Yes sir. I don't think I was charged extra. I did get a pop, RC as my throwback sodapop mostly just because the bottles came with caps, underneath the cap was a really good chance of at least some prize. A chilled bottle, perfect temperature, the bottle condensation building even before you leave the store. You use the bottle opener that's on the soda machine to open your bottle. Read morePrior to becoming Slice Express, this space was Pizza Mania. I've ordered Pizza Mania once and it was mediocre and made me hesitant to order from Slice Express. If this sounds like your experience, I would encourage you to give Slice Express a try!
Last night I ordered a medium thin crust cheese pizza (as kind of a baseline test). The pizza was your typical looking tavern-style and just shy of $19 (excluding tip). The sauce was a little herby for my tastes but still tasty and tangy. My dinner companion was A-OK with the herb level. The amount of cheese was well balance with the thinness of the crust. The middle pieces held their integrity better than I think tavern-style typically does (not overly greasy and floppy). I thought it was better than many of the other tavern-style pizzas I've had in the area and for cheaper too.
Overall, this is your board game night, drinking a little, I want to be bad kind of pizza. I would definitely order it again, as well as branch out to try...
Read moreI went there for 2 slices of pizza and was not expecting them to also have Mexican cuisine. I got my slices which was delicious but I also got the Mexican Nachos with everything, steak, guacamole, cheese, beans and sour cream. 100% delicious, the steak on the Nachos was amazing, I told them that the steak is nice and tender and seasoned well, and I wanted to try their taco or burrito now, but it was too late, I had my 2 slices. If the steak on the Nachos was good imagine the rest. They gave me a complimentary taco and it was mouthwatering. They were very friendly and attentive. Great people, phenomenal service and delicious food. Will be my go to place when I am in the area. 10/10. Small spot but packs a punch with the food and service. My only regret is not taking...
