As a longtime customer and friend of the Mavraganes family I love Stella's, but truly miss the grand hospitality that Maria and Gus provided. I rarely review restaurants and even more rarely leave negative reviews but although the longtime staff is still outstanding the new staff/ownership does not understand nor provide hospitality. We have tried to get our Sunday favorite Avgolemono numerous times for pickup and every time it is either the wrong soup or a smaller portion than we are charged for. The distinct line for small family restaurants and diners is hospitality. I work in culinary myself and despite not blinking an eye over prices increasing I take major issue with forking over $40 for the wrong order of soup. No apologies, no replacement. If the new owners expect to survive longterm they should really ask the longtime customers how they should proceed in hiring and managing. Guessing the tall blondish guy is the GM and he is so poor at his job I physically cringe at going to my favorite restaurant nowadays. I watch him sit at the register and ignore customers and deny regulars (especially the elderly) their special accommodations tht they have ordered in some cases for the last 40 years. I wish I had bought Stellas myself just to ensure that the legacy of Stella and Jimmy continued. Please pay attention to take out orders, I know the serving staff will always get my order right but clearly making profits for takeout soup isn't a priority for thr new management. Please pay attention and get to know your customers. Especially the elders, often their visit to Stella's is less about nourishing their bodies and more about nourishing their soul...
Read moreA club sandwich shouldn't be something that blows your mind away, to begin with. It's a simple sandwich that should satisfy your appetite for the time being… and you move on.
The Turkey Bacon Club at Stella's was a disrespect to the culinary arts on a global scale. I don't resort to sandwiches often because, after all, they are just a sandwich. But I decided to opt-in for the sake of nostalgia. It took me down memory lane, but definitely not the memory lane I was hoping for. What I got was a sandwich which was a grade below that of an elementary school lunch.
There was no taste to it. All your tastebuds could sense was the water that makes up the iceberg lettuce. The bacon and turkey were dull and bland (very low quality), and the bread slices didn’t differentiate much from a piece of cardboard. The nostalgic factor that patrons yearn for is what keeps this place open and packed on a consistent basis.
The service provided was good and sincere by our waitress, so she earns both stars. On the other hand, the kitchen needs to go back to the classroom and take Cooking 101. Where is the quality control?
*Note that coming here for a sandwich was not my idea in the first place and I usually never leave any positive or negative reviews, but Stella’s Diner earned my first ever critique. Just because someone has “experience” in something, doesn’t mean they’re good at it or doing it right –...
Read moreMe and Stella's? We're Donion Rings. This is thanks to my fiance and I being ignored for an hour within their dirty walls. At first I assumed they were short-staffed, though on a Friday evening it's unlikely, and as we continued to wait... we discovered the culprit was laziness. Upon arriving, a bus boy provided menus and water (then more water). We waited 10 minutes for a waitress to acknowledge our presence (after stacking the menus on a ledge and looking around for service). We ordered fries, onion rings, and a brownie sundae. We then waited a half hour for their arrival. The food was flavorless, though that is beside the point. In preparation for our sundae, over the next 30 minutes- we stacked our plates, used the restroom, looked around bewildered, received multiple water refills from the busboy, and began boiling with frustration. I grabbed my wallet and walked over to the front desk to wait for the manager, who had been manning it most of the night. The waitress suddenly noticed me! I explained how long we'd been waiting and she called for her manager. He then lazily strolled over, gave me my check and asked if I wanted to add tip. Never was there an explanation or apology for the...
