The food and customer service at Taco & Burrito House in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood is outstanding, world-class and exceptional: authentic Mexican food, tacos and cuisine made to order or dine inside. In fact, this is my favorite local food place in my neighborhood. The people here have shared with me a few stories of not only their food, but of who they are, their lives and where they came: of places like Guatemala, and exotic countries I've only read about, and dreamed of visiting. They always have gotten my order right here, each and every time: and I usually have a lot of requests. My favorite moment was this day when the owner of Chicago's Taco & Burrito House told me that Don Francisco was Chilean, or Chilean-Mexican, and this most random moment and fact: about a person I had seen on television before many years ago, and a reassuring moment: that I still understood some Spanish and could speak it back to him: from Taco & Burrito House's impressive owner who didn't mind practicing with me. I wasn't even sure who Don Francisco was by his name alone, to be honest, and I remember the owner told me to check on my phone, and that I'd know when I saw him, and I hardly watch any television, but I took his advice: and he was right: I actually did know who that was. Santiago, Chile is a place I still call home, in a way, as a foreign exchange student: who once grew up in a Chilean home in Las Condes, with Chileans who made sure that I was practicing. I remember I left that day being so surprised that Don Francisco was Chilean. And I still spoke Spanish, and understood what he said. I certainly never expected him to tell me such an interesting fact about Don Francisco of Univision. The food at this place couldn't be any better, and I like their staff...
Read moreI ordered from here a few times and was pretty happy that I finally found a place that made tamales closer to what my mom would make.
I ordered food today for me and a few others. Unfortunately, today must have been a bad day for them.
I ordered the Chimichanga. The flavor wasn't what I expected, but I added some salsa and figured it was just the seasoning. Halfway through, my stomach started turning, and I knew something was wrong. I end up throwing up whatever I ate and then a bit more. I don't know what happened, as I never had a problem before, but man, that was bad.
My friend got the Steak Milanesa Torta, and the same thing. He said it tasted fine initially, just that the steak was very thin, until they bit into a pocket of funky tasting/looking veggies. He didn't throw up but did spit out his bite and stopped eating it.
The person who ate a tamale is fine but who knows. They didn't finish their meal after our reactions. I ended up requesting a refund through Grubhub. Don't know what happened tonight, but it's very disappointing. I don't think I can order from them again nor...
Read moreStopped here for lunch as I've been to other locations and it never disappointed. Small little place simple decor and the staff was friendly. I ordered my and took it to go. Prior to ordering my food I had asked what the torta included which I was informed the meat beans lettuce tomato cheese. I also ordered a steak taco and you know as any other typical Mexican restaurant everything usually consists of cilantro and onions. Get to my destination I unwrap the torta and realize that there was no tomatoes which wasn't a problem but they skimmed out on the meat as there was hardly any meat in there. I unwrapped the taco and I realized that they put mayo on my taco. Yes you read that right Mayo who puts Mayo on a taco clearly this place. It now made sense when the cook ask the person that took my order if I wanted the taco with everything now I should have asked what everything consisted of. So beware of everything on your taco as it will...
